An exciting opportunity now exists to join the APAC People Team on a 12-month contract as a HR Business Partner.
This role is focused on independent delivery of people outcomes, with the ability to take on open-ended problems, simplify processes within the domain, and connect operational goals to broader functional and business strategy.
The primary focus of the role is supporting the day-to-day Sydney Tech portfolio, while also providing broader support to the Sydney BP team whenever additional capacity is needed. The role will support the employee lifecycle, strengthen people practices, collaborate with colleagues, and build relationships across the business
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
As a HR Business Partner, you’ll work alongside a passionate team of specialists, focusing on key areas that contribute to the team’s goals. Responsibilities include:
- Act as trusted people partner for the Sydney Tech portfolio, with overflow support to the wider Sydney BP team as capacity allows; deliver accurately across HR systems, tools and processes.
- Take ownership of ambiguous issues, clarify the path forward, and implement practical solutions that improve team efficiency.
- Link daily operational goals to HRBP and business priorities; stay across stakeholder strategies and frame advice in business outcomes.
- Proactively identify people risks and opportunities in the stakeholder and market context, and shape responses aligned to the people agenda.
- Run end-to-end people processes for the stakeholder group (performance conversations, early intervention, coaching), with consistency, fairness and Optiver standards.
- Operate independently where appropriate; balance commercial, compliance and people considerations; escalate complex judgements with clear upstream/downstream implications.
- Insert into the right conversations, raise a clear point of view, and translate change into clear, actionable steps for leaders.
- Invest in authentic relationships across the business; tailor communication and approach to different styles, cultures and needs; seek buy-in beyond the immediate team.
- Bridge stakeholders and People SMEs (Recruitment, L&D, Reward, D&I, People Ops); coordinate lifecycle activities and surface stakeholder needs/gaps to colleagues.
- Improve and simplify domain processes; advocate for people initiatives in business language; model Optiver values and own ongoing development through feedback and knowledge sharing.
WHO YOU ARE:
- Solid HR Business Partnering or related HR generalist experience, with a track record of independent delivery and ownership of open-ended people problems.
- Strong working knowledge of core employee lifecycle processes (performance, talent, employee relations and change support), with ability to master tools and processes quickly.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management, relationship building and collaboration skills, including experience influencing beyond the immediate team and tailoring approach to the audience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability; able to articulate implications of decisions, surface people risks/opportunities and seek guidance appropriately on complex issues.
- Comfort inserting into conversations, raising a point of view, and guiding stakeholders through change with clear next steps.
- Working knowledge of Australian employment practices and legislation; comfortable advising managers with support from senior colleagues on complex cases.
- Growth mindset, delivery focus and willingness to act as a values role model.
- Valid Australian working rights.
- AI skillset or practical experience using AI tools to improve HR delivery, insight or productivity (bonus, not a must-have).
WHAT YOU WILL GET
You’ll join a culture of collaboration and excellence, where you’ll be surrounded by curious thinkers and creative problem solvers. Driven by a passion for continuous improvement, you’ll thrive in a supportive, high-performing environment alongside talented colleagues, working collectively to tackle some of the most complex problems in the financial markets.
In return for your expertise, you will have access to a range of Optiver perks, including:
- A competitive renumeration salary package.
- The chance to work alongside diverse and intelligent peers in a rewarding environment.
