NielsenIQ is seeking a Junior Commercial Counsel to play a key supporting role within the NA legal team. Reporting to the General Counsel, Americas, this junior legal position will assist with a broad range of commercial legal matters, including drafting, reviewing, and negotiating commercial agreements under the guidance of senior legal team members.
Working closely with the Senior Counsel, Canada, and under the direction of the General Counsel, Americas, this role will collaborate with commercial, product, and operational teams to provide practical legal support on a variety of contractual matters. The Junior Commercial Counsel will gain hands-on experience supporting licensing, client, vendor, and partnership agreements, balancing risk management with business needs in a dynamic, global company environment.
This is a remote position for anyone currently living in and eligible to work in Canada.
Job Description- Assist in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements, such as client agreements, licensing agreements, data sharing agreements, vendor contracts, and partnership arrangements, under the supervision of senior counsel.
- Provide day-to-day legal support to business stakeholders on commercial contracting matters, escalating complex issues to the Senior Counsel or General Counsel as needed.
- Collaborate with sales, procurement, product, privacy, and security teams to help identify and address legal and compliance considerations in commercial transactions, with guidance from senior legal colleagues.
- Support the Senior Counsel, Canada, and General Counsel, Americas in managing commercial transactions and licensing arrangements, taking on increasing responsibility as experience grows.
- Advise business teams on standard contractual risk, company policies, and terms, seeking guidance from senior lawyers on more complex matters.
- Assist with the development and maintenance of contract templates, playbooks, and legal processes to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Help manage contract workflows and support efficient contract review and execution processes.
- Promptly escalate material legal or risk issues to the Senior Counsel, Canada, or General Counsel, Americas to ensure proper handling and resolution.
- LL.B. or J.D. and admission to practice law in a Canadian province.
- Approximately 2–4 years of relevant legal experience, ideally including work supporting commercial transactions at a law firm or in-house, with a preference for experience in technology, data, or market research companies.
- Some experience drafting and negotiating B2B commercial agreements is an asset.
- Familiarity with intellectual property, licensing, and data-related contractual issues is preferred.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams in a global environment, and a willingness to learn from and support senior legal team members.
Pay Range - $85,000 - 108,000 CAD - This posting is for a current vacancy
