Job Description: Turning Point USA is seeking a highly motivated and experienced In-House Legal Counsel to assist the organization's General Counsel. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing legal guidance to Turning Point USA on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, litigation, employment law, company policies and procedures, and regulatory compliance. This candidate needs to be ALL IN on the mission and values of Turning Point USA.

The ideal candidate will have at least three years of legal experience (with at least some employment law and contract review or drafting experience), excellent communication skills, exceptional organizational skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Attention to detail is a must. She/He must be able to prioritize tasks, be a team player, and take ownership of assignments.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal strategy and guidance on a wide range of legal matters, including contracts, employment law, litigation, and regulatory 501c3 compliance;
  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts and other legal documents;
  • Conduct legal research and analysis to support business objectives;
  • Assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure legal and regulatory compliance;
  • Participate in and provide legal support for Human Resources team and matters related to employment law;
  • Monitor and analyze legal developments that may impact the organization and advise the General Counsel accordingly;
  • Work with General Counsel to create corporate staff trainings on regulatory and nonprofit compliance;
  • Advise General Counsel on legal strategy in response to claims and litigation, and work closely with TPUSA’s outside counsel firms on select legal matters requiring specific expertise;
  • Report up to supervisors on a regular and ad-hoc basis, and proactively communicate to supervisors;
  • Mandatory travel shall not exceed 25% for this role. Periodic manual labor of lifting or moving objects less than 50 lbs.

Requirements:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and active membership and good standing in a state bar association (ideally Arizona or Indiana, but not required);
  • Live in the greater Phoenix, Arizona area or willing to relocate and work a full-time, in person schedule at our Phoenix, AZ headquarters;
  • Minimum of three years of relevant legal experience in a law firm or in-house legal department; 3.5 - 7 years of experience preferred;
  • Strong knowledge of employment law, corporate law, nonprofit law, contract law, and/or regulatory compliance;
  • Excellent organization, communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work independently and with internal teams as a service provider;
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, oversee complex legal matters, and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment with little oversight from management;
  • Willingness to fulfill all duties listed and any additional duties assigned;
  • Receives and applies feedback constructively to improve performance;
  • Demonstrates the ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time, and safely lift up to 15 lbs;
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to locations as needed;
  • Passion for the mission of Turning Point USA, conservative ideals and principles.
