The HBA Audit Support Associate position is a member of the Post-Pay Support group within the Hospital Bill Audit (HBA) team and supports our auditors and audit process. The primary responsibility of the role is to manage the exchange of all documents to and from our clients and providers, make outbound calls for audit documents, request audit fee checks, and any other support activities needed for the audit process.
This position is full-time, Monday - Friday. Employees are required to have flexibility to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm CST. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.
We offer on the job training. The hours of the training will be based on schedule or will be discussed on your first day of employment.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Send and receive audit documents (e.g., letters of intent, medical records, audit findings, and appeals) to and from providers via email, fax, or mail
  • Review received audit documents to ensure completeness of the documents and request additional documents where documents received are incomplete or illegible
  • Download and save received audit documents to Optum's imaging system
  • Make daily outbound calls to providers for audit documents not received
  • Create and send collection letters
  • Request audit fees from Account Payable when necessary
  • Respond to inquiries from auditors, operations team and other teams as needed
  • Update Optum system with any notes and required action codes
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma / GED
  • Must be 18 years of age OR older
  • 1+ years of experience in medical claim and/or healthcare industry experience
  • Understanding of relevant privacy regulations (e.g., HIPAA)
  • Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office suite; Microsoft Word (ability to create, copy, edit, save, and send documents), Microsoft Excel (ability to create, copy, edit, save, and send spreadsheets) and Microsoft Outlook (email and calendar management)
  • Ability to work any of our 8-hour shift schedules during our normal business hours of 8:00am - 5:00pm CST, Monday - Friday local time. It may be necessary, given the business need, to work occasional overtime.

Telecommuting Requirements:
  • Reside within Mainland USA
  • Ability to keep all company sensitive documents secure (if applicable)
  • Required to have a dedicated work area established that is separated from other living areas and provides information privacy.
  • Must live in a location that can receive a UnitedHealth Group approved high-speed internet connection or leverage an existing high-speed internet service.

  • Confidence in ability to make decisions and support those decisions; work with senior team members on more complex inquiries.

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The hourly pay for this role will range from $16.15 - $28.80 per hour based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
