Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Horticulturist to join our team at Constance Ephelia, a prestigious luxury resort in Seychelles. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing our extensive gardens and landscaped grounds, ensuring they remain a stunning showcase of tropical beauty. You will oversee all horticultural operations, manage plant health and wellbeing, and contribute to the resort's commitment to environmental sustainability and aesthetic excellence.

  • Cultivate, propagate, and maintain a diverse range of tropical and subtropical plants, flowers, and trees
  • Design, plan, and implement landscape projects that enhance the resort's natural environment and guest experience
  • Monitor plant health, diagnose and treat diseases, pests, and nutritional deficiencies using both conventional and organic methods
  •  Manage irrigation systems and water conservation practices to ensure optimal plant growth whilst maintaining environmental responsibility
  • Conduct soil analysis and implement appropriate soil amendments and fertilisation programmes
  •  Oversee the maintenance of garden beds, pathways, water features, and landscaped areas to the highest standards
  •  Supervise and train horticultural staff, ensuring adherence to best practices and health and safety protocols
  •  Maintain detailed records of plant inventory, maintenance schedules, and horticultural activities
  • Collaborate with resort management and other departments to align horticultural projects with organisational objectives
  •  Implement sustainable and organic gardening practices to minimise environmental impact
  •  Manage horticultural budgets and procurement of plants, materials, and equipment
  •  Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations

Qualifications

  • Extensive knowledge of tropical and subtropical plant species, particularly those suited to island climates
  •  Proven experience in garden design, landscape management, and horticultural maintenance
  •  Strong understanding of plant propagation, cultivation techniques, and soil science
  •  Demonstrated expertise in pest and disease management using integrated pest management principles
  •  Proficiency in irrigation system operation and maintenance
  • Experience in supervising and training horticultural teams
  •  Knowledge of sustainable and organic gardening practices
  •  Familiarity with horticultural tools, equipment, and machinery
  •  Strong organisational and time-keeping skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  •  Excellent people skills and the ability to work collaboratively across departments
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of plant care and garden aesthetics
  •  Understanding of health and safety regulations within horticultural environments
  •  Desirable experience with landscape design software or garden planning tools
  •  Desirable knowledge of Seychelles' native flora and local environmental conservation practices
  •  Desirable experience in budget management and procurement within horticultural settings
