PURPOSE AND DESCRIPTION OF JOB
Operates 2 or more assigned machines in Bulkan department while following safety standards, production schedule requirements, and Huhtamaki and customer specification requirements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Works safely at all times following Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), safe work practice policies and procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
- Capable of running equipment with no supervision
- Makes necessary machine adjustments to keep the product within specifications
- Performs Set-up and change over machine as required
- Rebuilds knife assemblies and remove/replace on cutters
- Changes the winding belts and doctor blade for glue application
- Assist in mechanical PM
- Performs Weekly Clean-up/PM
- Performs Annual Clean up
- Assist packer with troubleshooting machine’s
- Replenishes and load material as required and also verifies and moves required material to work centers
- Runs machines adhering to department standards
- Performs, rejects, corrects quality issues and enter data into NWA system or by filling Q.A forms
- Completes cold start up and shut down procedures, start and stop the machine and clear jams without assistance
- Troubleshoot and correct malfunctions and reports to team lead the problem and suggest possible solutions (seam variation, bonding issue, tube length adjustments, ring ID)
- Correct quality defects caused by process variation with little to no help
- Loads and unloads unwind stands
- Loads the steel coils using magnetic hoist
- Operates material handling equipment (Big Joe, pallet jack, vacuum lifts, floor lifts, etc)
- Interprets shop order details and instructions
- Issues materials accurately to shop orders
- Understands and follows mixed copy procedures
- Assist and verifies the packer with changing rolls, dumping excess material and assisting with flavor and size change (Proper Line Clearance)
- Records production/downtime data accurately in PI and BPCS system
- Performs shift change and order change without assistance
- Participates in Lean Events as scheduled
- Able to perform all tasks on two or more machines in the Bulkan department
- Additional duties in the department as assigned
- Carries out environmental compliance tasks, as appropriate to the position.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibility
EDUCATION/ QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or GED preferred
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience in the operation of industrial machinery (experience performing adjustments and repairs in a production environment preferred)
- Possess mechanical aptitude abilities
- Understand and be able to read product specifications and make changes as necessary
- Ability to read/write in English; capable of acting to written or verbal instruction
- Basic understanding of math concept to complete production reporting requirements
- Basic computer skills for use of systems: BPCS, TWI, Pi, Filemaker and NWA software
- Must have good communication, problem solving and decision-making skills
- Good knowledge of small hand tools and how to use them correctly
- General understanding of glue and wax application is desired
- Ability to use and understand measuring instruments accurately
- General understanding of safety best practices, procedures and practices
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Must be able to identify product and quality defects and color variation using vision
- Lift shaft weighing up to 50 lbs, push rolls rack weighing up to 500 lbs using moving equipment
- Ability to climb ladder when needed
- Consistent hand movement, grasping
- Bend, turn and stoop frequently
- Must be able to stand and walk 100% of working time
ENVIRONMENT
Will spend 100% (excluding breaks and lunch time) of time on the manufacturing floor with moderate noise levels and different ambient temperatures. Require the use of personal protective equipment including (but not limited to) hearing protection, safety glasses, arm sleeves, hair and beard net and steel toe shoes.
