Summary
The Histotechnologist I will work with the other members of the histology team to support day-to-day operations including tissue sectioning, FFPE block generation/embedding, re-embedding, and distribution of slides. He/she will assist in managing orders from Quality Control, Research &Development, Sales, and Instrument Research and Development and other departments to ensure timely delivery to respective personnel. Monitors inventory and re-orders as required. Produces MTA and TMA blocks with help of the pathologist. Helps maintain tissue bank and equipment.
Essential Functions

- Cut slides following histology work requests from QC, R&D, Sales, Engineering, and any other stakeholders. Perform assignments for microtomy team as assigned.
- Process FFPE tissue samples including embedding and sectioning.
- Stain tissue samples for routine H&Es as well as IHC.
- Makes custom control blocks as required by specific projects.
- Actively helps to complete required documents for instrument use and maintenance.
- Helps to maintain tissue bank to provide control materials for all requesting departments.
- Other duties as assigned.
Competencies
- Associate degree or higher with zero to two (0 – 2) years of experience in histology or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Experience in a high throughput laboratory working to critical timelines is desirable.
- Must be able to provide and follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills conducive to effective communication.
- Must be detail-oriented, precise and consistent.
- Able to work as a team member.
- Experience in either a laboratory setting handling human and non-human tissues is preferred.
- GLP and laboratory safety training is a plus.
- Able to work with minimal supervision.
- Strong desire to learn histology in a fast-paced environment.
Compensation Range
- $30 to $36 Hourly
Expected Hours of Work
- 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday – Friday. This position may require extended weekday or weekend hours depending on business needs.
