Regional West Medical Center is seeking a detail-oriented and dependable Histology Assistant to support the daily operations of the laboratory. This role is essential in ensuring specimens are accurately received, processed, and prepared for histological examination. Histology Assistants play a vital role in maintaining specimen integrity and supporting pathologists and laboratory staff in delivering high-quality patient care.
A Day in the Life
As a Histology Assistant, you'll assist with the receipt, identification, accessioning, and preparation of tissue specimens for histological processing. Your day may include preparing specimens, labeling and organizing materials, operating laboratory equipment, and ensuring all specimens are handled according to established procedures.
You'll help maintain laboratory quality standards by following safety protocols, documenting specimen information accurately, and assisting with equipment maintenance and supply inventory. Attention to detail is critical to ensure accurate testing and diagnostic results.
In addition, you'll work closely with pathologists, histotechnicians, and other laboratory professionals to support efficient workflow and timely turnaround of specimens while maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant laboratory environment.
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Coursework in biology, laboratory science, or a related field preferred
Certification
- Relevant laboratory certification preferred but not required
Experience
- Previous laboratory, healthcare, or histology experience preferred but not required
Work Requirements
- Ability to stand and move throughout assigned work areas for extended periods
- Ability to handle and process specimens in accordance with laboratory standards
