Education:Required: Graduate of an accredited school of Histologic Technique or one (1) year on the job training under Board certified Pathologist Licensure/Certification:Preferred: American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Histotechnician certification Experience: Preferred: Histology Technician experienceReports To: Supervisor Supervises: N/A Ages of Patients: All Ages Blood Borne Pathogens: High PotentialSkills, Knowledge, Abilities:
Ability to learn complex tasks, Ability to operate general office equipment (i.e., computer, printer, scanner, telephone, etc.), Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines, Fine motor skills, Mathematical and reasoning skills, Proficient with Laboratory equipment and instrumentation, Written and verbal communication skillsEssential Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations. 2. Processes surgical specimens in accordance with established procedures. 3. Processes all necessary paperwork, assuring appropriate reporting. 4. Embeds, sections, and stains tissue for microscopic interpretation by the pathologist. 5. Performs frozen sections and staining as needed. 6. Utilizes Laboratory Information Systems as appropriate. 7. Disinfects and maintains work areas and instrumentation as needed. 8. Performs preventative maintenance procedures. 9. Complies with hospital and Laboratory safety policies and procedures. 10. Performs general duties in grossing area as needed. 12. Performs quality control and maintains records. 13. Assists in ordering, maintaining, and restocking of supplies. 14. Monitors block and slide storage and disposal. 15. Performs other duties as assigned.Skills Required
- Graduate of an accredited school of Histologic Technique
- One year on the job training under Board certified Pathologist
- ASCP Histotechnician certification
- Histology Technician experience
