This job is responsible for daily management of DNB accounts. Researches accounts to locate required documents for coding. Communicates, educates, and establishes accountability by identifying trends, and reporting findings to the responsible user and department operational leadership, as well as to the HIM and Coding Management team . Maintains spreadsheets with trending data to generate reports for use by HIM Coding Management, to facilitate resolution and eliminate future occurrences. Coordinates and leads discussions and meetings with department leadership to communicate the issues identified in trending. Works independently with minimal supervision.

Education

Required - Bachelor’s degree

Preferred - Additional degrees,  business training experience and/or certifications may be combined to meet minimum qualifications.

Work Experience
Required - 3 years experience in HIM or related health care field OR an Associate Degree with degree with 5 years experience in Health Information Management or related healthcare field. 

Preferred- Experience in HIM Dept with an electronic medical record.

Basic knowledge of coding practices.

Certifications

Preferred - RHIT, RHIA, CCS, and/or CPC-H certifications

Knowledge Skills and Abilities (KSAs)

• Must have computer skills and dexterity required for data entry and retrieval of information.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills and the ability to present information clearly and professionally.
• Must be proficient with Windows-style applications, various software packages specific to role and keyboard.
• Strong interpersonal skills.

• Good organizational skills, time management skills, and strong follow-through capabilities.

• Ability to exercise good judgment and work with medical staff, nursing staff, ancillary departments and co-workers.

• Ability to prioritize daily duties, multitask, and make decisions necessary to complete all assigned tasks and accomplish goals. 

• Ability to concentrate mentally and verbally.

• Must work closely with the management team to solve problems and meet deadlines.

• Working knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy and physiology. 

• Strong working computer skills with a working knowledge of health information and information systems required. 
• Ability to work flexible schedul, such as nights, weekends, holidays, extended shifts, etc.

Job Duties

• Researches DNB accounts.
• Communicates with appropriate individual/departments regarding accounts.
• Maintains spreadsheets and monitors work queues/dashboard reports.
• Prepares reports.
• Serves as Health Information Department resource.
• Performs other day-to-day operational assignments, as needed.

Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible. NOTE: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.

Normal routine involves no exposure to blood, body fluid or tissue and as part of their employment, incumbents are not called upon to perform or assist in emergency care or first aid.

The incumbent has no occupational risk for exposure to communicable diseases.

Because the incumbent works within a healthcare setting, there may be occupational risk for exposure to hazardous medications or hazardous waste within the environment through receipt, transport, storage, preparation, dispensing, administration, cleaning and/or disposal of contaminated waste. The risk level of exposure may increase depending on the essential job duties of the role.
