About the Role

We are seeking a Compliance and Contract Administration Lead to support the effective delivery of governance, commercial administration, and contract management activities across our Highways, Public Realm and Tree Services. The postholder will play a key role in ensuring that contracts, supplier arrangements, governance processes, and associated records are managed effectively and consistently across a diverse portfolio of operational services.

Working closely with service managers, Finance, Legal Services, Corporate Procurement and external suppliers, you will provide oversight and coordination of contract administration activities, maintain contract management information, support commissioning and tendering activity, and ensure compliance with Council policies, procedures, governance requirements, and relevant legislation. The role will support the delivery of highways maintenance, street lighting, traffic management, public realm improvements, arboricultural services, grounds maintenance, and associated professional services contracts.

You will be responsible for maintaining contract and supplier records, coordinating governance and approval processes, monitoring compliance requirements, producing management information and performance reports, and supporting managers in the administration of commercial and contractual arrangements. Through effective oversight, attention to detail, and continuous improvement, you will help ensure value for money, transparency, and robust governance across the service.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of contract administration, governance, compliance, or commercial support within a local authority, public sector, highways, environmental, infrastructure, or construction environment.
  • Experience of supporting commissioning, tendering, contract mobilisation, contract variations, extensions, and associated approval processes.
  • Knowledge of local authority governance requirements, contract management principles, and public sector procurement processes.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify compliance risks, and support service improvements.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across operational teams, corporate services, contractors, and suppliers.
