Position Summary
We are looking for a Health & Safety Intern to join us for 3+ months, starting in May 2025. This position will be based at our Plover Appetizer location in central Wisconsin.
The intern will support different aspects of the manufacturing process at McCain Foods while working in one of the core functions and contributing to that team's goals and objectives. The Intern is expected to gain a broad understanding of manufacturing processes and tools. The intern will work with a team to identify and track safety initiatives and concerns and work as part of the safety team while collaborating with different departments as required.
The Team
The intern will be a part of the dynamic safety team at the Plover Appetizer Plant.
What You Will Be Working On
- Collaborate with employees from various departments to conduct risk assessments, recommend proper controls, and update job hazard analyses.
- Assist in audits/inspections of machinery and equipment to ensure compliance with corporate policies and regulations.
- Assist in daily site safety and contractor audits during shutdown.
- Actively participate in monthly safety committee meetings and follow up on action items.
- Support the plant "Lock Out - Tag Out" program.
- Support department supervisors with incident investigation and follow-up on action items.
- Assist in tracking and monitoring plant health and safety metrics and communicating trends to the management team.
- Maintain health and safety records to ensure adherence to corporate policies and/or regulatory requirements.

What You Need to be Successful
- Pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree program related to the Safety profession.
- Understand the basic principles of OSHA regulations.
- Comfort working in a manufacturing environment.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written) with the ability to work and relate with people at all levels of the organization.
- Strong team player
- Ability to support projects in administrative and manufacturing settings while in a fast-paced environment.
- Creative thinking, problem-solving, organization, and planning skills.
