PURPOSE OF THE JOB
The Headquarters (HQ) Controller is accountable for the coordination of global coordination for the development of procedures and systems for the financial control of the corporation worldwide and the safeguarding of the assets including automated systems. This role will assist Global Corporate Controller (GCC) in directing the preparation and analysis of financial statements; ensuring the implementation of adequate internal controls, directing, and managing financial accounting and reporting, HQ costing and technical accounting activities. Allied to this global coordination, role is the direct management of the HQ accounting functions. The HQ Controller is the primary contact with the corporation’s external auditor and is responsible to ensure compliance with the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), providing interpretation and recommendations on new accounting directives.
BACKGROUND and EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in accounting.
- Master's degree preferred.
- CPA, ACCA or other relevant accounting professional qualification required.
- 10+ years of progressive job experience in international accounting/finance field, including experience managing others.
- Experience with complex international accounting environment to include multiple subsidiaries, currencies, and basis of accounting.
- Proven manager with ability to lead a team toward the accomplishment of organizational goals and objectives and promote a positive working environment with focus on development of team members.
- Well-developed analytical and communicative ability both written and verbal.
NATURE OF THE JOB
- Directing, controlling, and coordinating standardized accounting processes.
- Evaluating, developing, and implementing recommendations that ensure corporation complies with IFRS directives.
- Design and implement policies and procedures to ensure adequate internal control structure.
- Quarterly preparation and submission of reporting package (Stravis) to ultimate parent company in Japan (Ebara Corporation).
- Stands in for the Global Corporate Controller when needed.
CONTACT WITH OTHERS
- Regular contact with Corporate Finance management, Ebara HQ and Regional Directors.
- Interacts with senior leadership on a constant basis to coordinate accounting processes and reporting.
- Interacts with the external and internal auditors.
- Interaction with various other operational departments.
SPECIFIC JOB RESPONSIBILITIES / COMPETENCIES
- Establish and implement accounting policies, practices, and procedures, resulting in compliance with IFRS; ensure timely and accurate financial statements.
- Direct systems of internal controls resulting in the safeguarding of corporate assets and compliance with IFRS.
- Direct the development and implementation of effective and efficient automated accounting systems and ensure the integrity of all the manual and automated systems as they apply to the financial well-being of the corporation.
- Manage processes and procedures for producing IFRS compliant consolidated financial statements (including foreign subsidiaries).
- Responsible for the approval and tracking of the capital expenditure (CAPEX) and warranty reserves.
- Responsible for IFRS compliant HQ cost accounting and pension accounting.
- Responsible for monthly progress billings review (with treasury department) to ensure monthly adjustment journals.
- Responsible for managing monthly commission, incentives and budget write-off schedules and adjusting when needed.
- Oversee technical accounting requirements of the organization with support from technical accounting manager.
- Responsible for the quarterly reporting requirements of the parent company.
- Arranges and schedule timely information and analysis to the external auditors which allows them to complete their audit on timely basis.
- Responsible for managing quarter end and annual external audit.
- Leverage tools and automated processes to ensure efficient and timely completion of statutory financial statements and required disclosures.
- Serve as point-of-contact for stakeholders across the organization as it relates to entity accounting issues. Engage with global entity teams to ensure alignment and proactively share relevant information.
- Advise and direct the completion of special projects as assigned by the CFO and / or by Global Corporate Controller.
