Description

Grimes & Company Wealth Management is an independent Registered Investment Advisory (RIA) firm serving high-net-worth individuals and families across the country. Recently recognized as one of the 2025 Best RIAs to Work For, we are continuing to grow and are seeking a Head of Wealth Strategies to join our team.

About the Role

The Head of Wealth Strategies will lead the development, integration and delivery of Grimes & Company’s comprehensive wealth-planning capabilities. This individual will bring together the firm’s investment expertise, financial-planning resources, tax capabilities, estate planning, trust services, insurance solutions and external specialist relationships into a cohesive and differentiated wealth strategy for clients and prospects.

As the firm’s senior wealth-strategy leader and principal architect of wealth design, the Head of Wealth Strategies will drive the firmwide planning agenda, establish the methodology and standards for strategic planning, and help embed a planning-led approach across the organization. This leader will partner with Wealth Managers, Regional Directors, the Investment Team and centralized service teams to translate each client’s goals, concerns, family dynamics and priorities into coordinated, actionable strategies.

The role will have a particular responsibility for advancing Grimes’ ultra-high-net-worth strategy and serving as a senior firmwide resource on the most complex client and prospect opportunities. The Head of Wealth Strategies will engage directly with clients and their outside advisors on sophisticated estate, trust, tax, philanthropic, business succession and multigenerational wealth matters, while helping position Grimes as a destination for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth families.

Primary Responsibilities

Wealth-Strategy Leadership

  • Develop and maintain the firmwide wealth-strategy framework, including retirement, estate and legacy planning, tax strategy, risk management, business-owner planning, concentrated wealth, charitable planning and intergenerational wealth transfer.
  • Translate the firm’s capabilities into a clear, repeatable wealth-design process that Wealth Managers can use with clients and prospects.
  • Establish planning standards that begin with an understanding of each client’s motivations, concerns, priorities, family circumstances and desired outcomes.
  • Define when and how specialized planning capabilities should be introduced into the client relationship.
  • Identify emerging planning needs and recommend the capabilities, partnerships, technology and talent required to serve increasingly complex clients.
  • Build and manage Grimes’ ultra-High Net Worth offering.

Complex Client and Prospect Engagement

  • Serve as a senior strategist on significant high-net-worth and complex client opportunities.
  • Partner with Wealth Managers and Regional Directors during discovery, proposal development and key client meetings.
  • Help diagnose planning opportunities, organize the appropriate internal and external specialists and develop a coordinated strategy for the client.
  • Provide subject-matter credibility in situations involving concentrated stock, business transitions, estate and trust structures, tax-sensitive investing, philanthropic planning and complex family dynamics.
  • Identify opportunities to deepen relationships across generations, family members and entities while ensuring recommendations remain grounded in each family’s objectives and circumstances.

Integration of Firm Capabilities

  • Connect the work of Financial Planning, Investment Management, Grimes Wealth Protection, Grimes Trust Services, Grimes S&C Tax Advisors and other centralized resources into an unified client experience.
  • Define clear referral, intake, ownership and handoff processes among Wealth Managers and specialist teams.
  • Develop a practical framework for coordinating advice while maintaining appropriate legal, regulatory and information-sharing boundaries between affiliated businesses.
  • Build relationships with outside attorneys, accountants, valuation specialists, philanthropic advisors and other professionals when capabilities are not maintained internally.
  • Create a disciplined approach for evaluating and managing external strategic partners.

Advisor Enablement and Resource

  • Drive planning adoption across the firm by partnering with Regional Directors and Wealth Managers to identify opportunities and embed wealth strategy more consistently into client relationships.
  • Create conversation guides, discovery frameworks, case studies, client-facing materials and planning playbooks.
  • Lead training on topics such as retirement income, legacy planning, concentrated positions, business-owner planning, tax-aware strategies, trust services, insurance planning and multigenerational engagement.
  • Coach advisors on how to identify planning needs without requiring them to become experts in every technical discipline.
  • Promote adoption of the firm’s centralized planning and specialist capabilities.
  • Establish strategic case-consultation forums through which advisors can bring forward complex situations, collaborate on wealth-design opportunities and benefit from specialized expertise.

Central Planning Team Leadership

  • Lead, develop and have direct responsibility for members of the centralized planning team.
  • Establish clear roles, service standards, capacity expectations and development paths for team members.
  • Help create a training ground for emerging advisors and planners who may advance into broader Wealth Manager roles.
  • Participate in leadership, Financial Planning Committee and other relevant governance meetings.
  • Provide leadership with regular reporting on utilization, capacity, advisor adoption, client outcomes and strategic opportunities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, financial planning, accounting, economics, law or a related discipline.
  • JD or other advanced designations such as CFP, CPA, CPWA®, ChFC®, CTFA or CEPA® is required.
  • Twelve plus years of experience in wealth management, financial planning, private banking, trust, tax or family-office services.
  • Demonstrated experience advising high-net-worth and complex families.
  • Strong knowledge of retirement, estate, tax, investment, insurance and charitable-planning concepts.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams or coordinating professionals across multiple advisory disciplines.
  • Proven ability to translate complex strategies into clear client recommendations.
