Role Overview
The Head of Pricing and Underwriting for Bupa Global DAC is responsible for managing pricing and underwriting for business. The role holder will work closely with the Executives as well as with the wider the Bupa Global Pricing Function.
The role holder will fulfil the Central Bank of Ireland regulatory requirements for PCF-18 Head of Underwriting and be subject to associated regulatory requirements such as the Senior Executive Accountability Regime, Individual Accountability Framework Conduct Standards and Fitness and Probity Standards.
You’ll help us make health happen by:
- Business partnering to CEO, Finance Director and Sales Director in terms of participation in all commercial pricing decisions and proactive support for wider commercial initiatives.
- Chair the Underwriting and Pricing Committee and be a member of the Executive Committee.
- Identifying financial performance issues related to premiums within Bupa and institute relevant corrective actions.
- Actively being involved in the setting of the annual operating plan for Bupa with explicit co-ownership of key assumptions regarding customer volumes, revenue, and loss ratios.
- Ensuring that all reports and deliveries are compliant with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries ‘Technical Actuarial Standards.
- Representing the Pricing and Underwriting team in core governance committees and meetings as appropriate (including In Life, New Product Pricing Committee).
- Delivering market leading pricing and underwriting solutions by applying strategic thinking and creative problem solving.
- Communicating complex issues simply and clearly to all levels of the organisation.
Key Skills needed for this role:
- Qualified actuary and Fellow of either the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, Society of Actuaries of Ireland or equivalent level of relevant experience in health insurance industry
- Experience of making change happen (ideas into actions into results)
- Ability to work with ambiguity and uncertainty –often driven by incomplete / uncertain data
- A proactive mindset, challenging requirements, seeing things from a customer angle and exploring new directions from results of analyses
- Strong communication and influencing skills and experience in presenting complex issues simply and clearly
- Excellent in presenting all types of information including complex data and strategic recommendations at all levels of an organisation
- Proven success in influencing at Director levels and achieving change in a complex business
- Experience of managing a demanding workload and tight deadlines
- Excellent planning and organisational skills and project management experience
- Experience of insurance pricing
- Experience of general insurance or health insurance
- Experience of commercial decision making
- An appreciation of actuarial, medical and statistical issues relating to pricing
