Job Description:

Head of Technology, UKI

Staines, London or Manchester

Permanent – Full Time – Hybrid

We make health happen

At Bupa, we’re here to help people live longer, healthier, happier lives and make a better world. It’s a purpose that runs through everything we do, and it’s why we’re investing in technology that strengthens care, improves experiences, and supports our colleagues across the UK Insurance (UKI) business.

As our Head of Technology UKI, you’ll play a key part in making this purpose real by leading the strategic technology direction for our Customer Medical and Health Care teams. You’ll shape digital transformation across the department, bringing innovation, modernisation and stability to the systems that support our customers every day.

It’s an exciting opportunity to influence how we use automation, data and AI, and to modernise legacy platforms so they’re more resilient, scalable and easier to use. You’ll help us be faster, smarter and even more human in how we deliver technology — always with our customers and colleagues at the centre.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the technology strategy for your area, making sure it fits with the wider Bupa Group IT and UK Insurance direction.
  • Partner with senior leaders to make sure technology is enabling growth, improving the customer experience, and supporting operational excellence.
  • Provide expert guidance on emerging trends, including AI, automation, cloud and cyber security.
  • Embed product‑centric and agile ways of working, establishing cross‑functional teams that focus on delivering value faster.
  • Oversee the delivery of large technology programmes and digital transformation initiatives, ensuring they’re on time, on budget and meet quality expectations.
  • Drive the modernisation of core systems so they’re resilient, scalable and easier for colleagues and customers to use.
  • Encourage the adoption of data, automation and AI capabilities to unlock efficiency and new opportunities.
  • Lead service excellence, making sure our platforms stay stable, available and well‑maintained.
  • Own incident, problem and change management across your technology estate, reducing risks and improving experience.
  • Build strong relationships with vendors and partners to maximise value and support performance.
  • Make sure your teams meet Bupa’s standards for cyber security, compliance and good governance.
  • Create an inclusive, collaborative and high‑performing culture, developing talent and supporting wellbeing across the team.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A strong background as a senior IT leader, ideally in a regulated industry such as insurance or financial services.
  • Experience shaping technology strategy, delivering digital transformation and overseeing IT service operations.
  • Confidence in establishing product‑centric ways of working at scale, with clear and measurable impact.
  • Strong knowledge of cloud services, digital platforms, data and AI technologies.
  • A track record of influencing senior stakeholders and managing complex vendor and partner ecosystems.
  • A degree in Engineering, Computer Science or a related field (an advanced degree is an advantage).
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to simplify complexity and bring people together.
  • Strategic thinking combined with a practical, delivery‑focused mindset.
  • Experience leading teams through modern software development practices and agile environments.
  • A passion for developing diverse talent and supporting meaningful career growth across technology teams.
