Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company with the mission to be the world's most trusted driver. Since its start as the Google Self-Driving Car Project in 2009, Waymo has focused on building the Waymo Driver—The World's Most Experienced Driver™—to improve access to mobility while saving thousands of lives now lost to traffic crashes. The Waymo Driver powers Waymo’s fully autonomous ride-hail service and can also be applied to a range of vehicle platforms and product use cases. The Waymo Driver has provided over ten million rider-only trips, enabled by its experience autonomously driving over 100 million miles on public roads and tens of billions in simulation across 15+ U.S. states.
This role follows a hybrid work schedule and reports to the Director of Global Workplace & eMobility.
You will:
- Technical Ownership & Architecture: Define the technical direction and architecture for both building automation systems (BAS) and internal technical services, focusing heavily on system sustainability, scalability, and long-term risk mitigation.
- Lead System Integration: Act as the Master Systems Integrator, managing the installation, configuration, and integration of on-premise and cloud service architectures across disparate building systems and protocols.
- Escalation Point & Crisis Management: Serve as the primary technical contact during major incidents, leading root cause analysis (RCA) and driving permanent fixes (3rd level support) under pressure.
- Drive Programming & Design: Oversee the creation of control submittals, panel layouts, and controller programming (graphical block and line code), while enforcing coding standards and conducting rigorous code reviews.
- Team Leadership & Mentorship: Lead and motivate a team of technicians and engineers, growing future leaders through active mentorship and fostering a culture of technical accountability and excellence.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Bridge the gap between technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, translating operational and product needs into technical requirements while executing cross-functional initiatives.
You have:
- Education & Experience: 5-7+ years of experience in software development, IT, or technical support, with prior experience in a team lead or senior engineer role.
- Technical Depth: Expertise in relevant technology stacks (e.g., Linux, Java, Python), cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP), and databases, coupled with a deep baseline knowledge of electrical concepts and HVAC mechanics.
- Methodologies & Core Skills: Strong knowledge of Agile/Scrum, ITIL, DevOps, and CI/CD pipelines, combined with the intrinsic hands-on aptitude to relate spatial environments and schematics to complex wiring diagrams.
- L7 Competencies: The ability to solve ambiguity, influence technical strategy across multiple teams, and anticipate long-term technical debt.
- Mission Alignment: A commitment to the Waymo Way, serving as a consistent role model for our behaviors—acting like an owner and staying humble.
We prefer:
- Advanced Device & Protocol Expertise: Deep familiarity with BACnet protocols, AI/AV/AO limitations, and integrating highly specialized I/O devices.
- Digital Transformation: Experience transitioning organizations from manual/disparate tracking frameworks to centralized, enterprise-level cloud platforms.
- Industry Background: Experience in the autonomous vehicle, robotics, tech hardware, or aerospace sectors.
Travel Requirements:
- Approximately 25% travel required.
