The Head of Supply Chain & Purchasing will be responsible for leading the Supply Chain group which consists of Purchasing and Materials Management. In addition to the operational responsibilities, this position will be responsible for setting a Supply Chain strategy oriented towards efficiency and responsiveness.

    • Working with the Senior Leadership to develop strategies that align supply chain activities with business objectives.
    • Developing and implementing strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs in supply chain operations.
    • Directs and oversees the organization's material engineering, material management, logistics, and purchasing strategy, policies, objectives, and initiatives.
      • Leads the development and implementation of the material movement, distribution, ownership, directed buy, and transportation strategies to ensure that critical processes run effectively and achieve organizational goals, Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), and customer satisfaction.
    • Lead and direct the standardization and continuous improvement of all supply chain, material ownership, and logistics policies, procedures, and business processes to maximize the efficiency, reliability, and cost effectiveness. This includes materials planning, ownership, control, procurement, inventory levels, storage, warehousing, logistics, transport, customs brokerage, and distribution.
    • Communicate with other senior leaders to ensure handling, supply and logistics strategies and activities are integrated with other parts of the business and aligned with overall objectives.
    • Lead a team to ensure adequate staffing, along with coach and mentor the materials team members, and develop Supply Chaim Management (SCM) team goals/KPIs and best practices.
      • Monitor the performance of SCM activities against goals/KPIs.
      • Improve performance and relationships with suppliers and logistics partners.
    • Develops the overall strategy, metrics, and processes to deploy an optimized logistic network and operations.
    • Oversees negotiations with vendors to obtain optimal contracts and pricing.
    • Lead optimization of material handling labor and equipment including use of flow planning to accelerate physical flows and lean manufacturing principles in the design, development and implementation of appropriate storage strategies and material handling movement.
    • Ensure that the Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and IT systems are in place, and that all data required to support the operation is accurate and up to date.
    • Lead launch planning regarding floor space requirements, material storage strategy, dock requirements and location, material flow, plant floor layout, labor, and equipment requirements.
    • Lead the development of applications for material management systems.
    • Support new plant development with job instructions, hiring, training, floor readiness implementation, sourcing and facilitation through pre-production and start of regular production.
    • Ensures that inventory levels are maintained throughout the production process while maximizing the efficiency of warehousing and distribution operations.
    • Utilizes analytics to monitor and measure performance, identify problems in operations, and achieve high performance at optimal cost.
    • Achieve supply chain management operational objectives by contributing materials management information and recommendations to strategic plans and reviews; preparing and completing action plans; implementing production, productivity, quality, and customer-service standards; resolving problems; completing audits; identifying trends; determining materials management system improvements; implementing change.
    • Lead the center of expertise for all plant material managers to assist in hiring, training and implement best practices and read across opportunities in each facility.
    • Works with safety team to develop safety procedures and audits for all mobile equipment, material handling devices and workstation ergonomics related to material.
    • Leads and directs the planning, designing, and implementing all aspects of an organization's logistics management function to control, deliver, and distribute products and materials.
    • Research, negotiate, maintain, monitor, and evaluate relationships and contracts with external suppliers so plants have a reliable supply of goods/services that meet standards of quality timeliness, and cost.
    • Drive standardization of processes and procedures, transaction methods with suppliers, supplier selection processes / ongoing supplier management, data collection, negotiation, performance improvement, cost reduction and communication strategies.
    • Participate in existing and new product planning processes to assure timely acquisition of materials to support product launches and field requirements.
    • Responsible for being a successful steward of the company's financial affairs as it pertains to purchasing.
    • Lead negotiation efforts on purchase agreements and vendor contracts with a bias for achievement of quality, delivery, cost containment and process improvement.
    • Develop and maintain systematic, analytical, and results-based method for monitoring supplier's performance and communicate these results to the suppliers and end users.
    • Provide timely and actionable information for corrective actions to be taken where necessary to both the supplier and end users.
    • Manage and support corporate oversight for purchases, across multiple expense categories and creates strategic vision for the company as well as driving purchasing synergies to achieve cost savings across company product lines.
    • Develop, implement, and manage all research projects.
    • Measure and evaluate progress and results for all projects as well as the department.
    • Provide research and development support for operations, marketing and communications.
    • Implement best practice methods and establish high standards across the department.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field is required; Master's Degree in Business Management preferred (MBA).
  • Experience: 10+ years materials management experience in a "just in time" manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated material planning experience.
  • Demonstrated use of material flow software.

  • Travel Required: 25% - 50% depending on program status

  • Ability to plan and analyze production requirements and implement supporting material systems and business processes.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills and leadership ability, especially for collaborating with others internally and externally to accomplish goals and resolve issues.
  • Highly organized and able to identify and set goals.
  • Able to work under pressure to meet deadlines and be able to perform self-initiated and planned activities.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency, and an overall customer satisfaction focus.
  • Functions well in a team environment.
  • Enjoys spending time analyzing, questioning, discussing, and implementing innovative ideas.
  • Demonstrated and creative ability to solve problems.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficient in Microsoft suite software and others software as required to manage and analyze data.
  • Proficiency with Material Control Systems and Materials Requirement Planning Systems (QAD's MfgPro and preferably customer specific MRP and container management systems).
  • Proficient in the use of Flow Planner to simulate material flow in the plant.
