The Pipeline Integrity Solutions and Compliance Department is seeking a Head of Section - Director of Pipeline Services to lead a team of engineers delivering pipeline integrity-related services to the industry and oversee the operations of the DNV Calgary office. 

The Integrity Solutions and Compliance Department is dedicated to delivering innovative solutions and services to the pipeline industry. This position is based in Calgary, Alberta presenting a dynamic hybrid schedule where employees will typically spend three (3) days per week working from either a DNV office or client location/site.

What You’ll Do:

  • Team Development & Mentorship: Lead and mentor a team of engineers, providing direction, training, and technical guidance to develop their skills and maintain high performance.
  • Resource Management: Oversee staff resourcing by working with the project managers to determine project needs and allocate resources based on skills, workload, and technical abilities to ensure optimal coverage for projects.
  • Safety & Quality Compliance: Enforce strict compliance with all Safety, Health, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) protocols. Foster a strong safety culture and ensure all activities meet company and industry quality and safety standards.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide expert technical input on leads, opportunities, and projects. Review and approve proposals and project reports for accuracy and completeness. Drive continuous improvement in efficiency and delivery of projects.
  • Strategic Contribution: Work with the Integrity Solutions and Compliance Department leadership to align with broader strategic goals. Identify opportunities in the Pipeline Integrity Industry to improve and grow our services and contribute to the overall strategic direction of the organization.
  • Delivery on annual KPIs: Work with the Integrity Solutions and Compliance Department leadership to set annual Key Performance Indicators and ensure successful delivery.
  • Business Support & Governance: Ensure office operations are conducted in accordance with company policies, safety expectations, financial controls, and administrative procedures.
  • Local Office Presence: Provide a visible leadership presence in the Calgary office to support employee engagement, address local operational needs, and foster a productive and inclusive workplace environment.

Qualifications

What is Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the pipeline integrity industry, with strong industry recognition and credibility.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop business with customers in the pipeline integrity industry.
  • Demonstrated team leadership or supervisory experience in a technical environment, with strong mentorship and people-management abilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of the pipeline integrity industry, client management, and business development.
  • Excellent organizational and management skills to thrive in a fast-paced environment. Proven ability to prioritize tasks and maintain attention to detail while meeting deadlines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective team coordination, report writing, and stakeholder communication.
  • Commitment to upholding the highest safety and quality standards, leading by example in following all safety protocols and quality procedures.
  • Willingness and ability to occasionally travel (up to ~25%) for meetings, training, or off-site project support as needed.
  • We conduct pre-employment drug and background screening.
 

What is Preferred:

  • Proven experience managing staff, including responsibility for a P&L, with demonstrated financial planning and resource allocation skills.
  • Experience with leading multidisciplinary project teams, indicating strong teamwork and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of the pipeline integrity industry, regulations, industry standards, recommended practices, code and compliance, and integrity management programs.
  • Demonstrates AI and digital fluency, with the ability to critically evaluate AI outputs for quality and accuracy. Drives responsible AI use across the team, ensures alignment with governance frameworks, and coaches direct reports on effective and responsible AI adoption.
