Major tasks and responsibilities

• Member of global Mobility Leadership Team and member of EP GMC.

• Implement global Mobility strategy by defining regional adaptations of Mobility Must-Win-Battles as well as appropriate ASIA specific strategies and tactics in order to develop highly resilient business and to build a differentiated position in relevant markets/applications.

• Identify and develop sustainable growth drivers (including Innovation needs and CE solutions) to maintain or – in certain areas – expand market share and continuously deliver profit. This includes leveraging Global R&D and Product Technology resources to increase capabilities and portfolio for resilient markets.

• Integration of Electrical Vehicle Platform business into the profitable growth story for Mobility. Ensure effective and efficient team setup and align esp. with EE (Electronics and Electrical) for current and developing cross-industry trends.

• Develop and implement regional specific customer coverage setup, incl. sales force coverage, and channel mix. Ensure sustainable market-access as well as increasing customer satisfaction and loyalty incl. role of senior representative for Key-Accounts.

• Ensure high level of service to customers by establishing and leading a high-performing and professional Technical and Sales team and by coordinating with other relevant functions including but not limited to service-related functions.

• Drive Covestro Circular Economy positioning in Mobility ASIA by developing a comprehensive portfolio of CE solutions (recycling/portfolio/closed loop/regional specifics). Core task of the head of S&MD Mobility ASIA is to drive and facilitate the change towards a circular economy at customers in cooperation with the venture manager for EP.

• Create and maintain high level of transparency for relevant EP markets with special focus on the automotive industry in order to take proactive actions to seize business opportunities and ensure long-term profitable growth.

• Based on in-depth understanding of ASIA and global competitive landscape closely observe competitors’ behaviors and actions in the market in order to derive adequate tactical and strategic responses.

• Closely monitor government policies and regulations and respond to changes with actions that will secure business and profitability.

• Hire and develop personnel with a strong focus on diversity and inclusion. Lead and coach the teams in order to achieve goals and deliver results.

• Effective communication within internal EP and Covestro teams (global and regional) and pro-actively strive for continuous improvement of interface management to increase efficiency.

• Act as the senior representative of Engineering Plastics in Japan, enhancing Covestro’s and EP’s presence and reputation in the market.

• Representing Engineering Plastic JP leadership in senior-level customer engagement upon request.

• Serve as a senior interface between Engineering Plastics and other business entities, industry teams, and functions within Covestro Japan.

• Support cross-industry alignment by sharing market insights, customer perspectives, and strategic viewpoints for the EP business.

• Contribute to country-level discussions and initiatives where EP input and senior experience are required.

• Represent Covestro and Engineering Plastics in relevant trade and industry associations related to plastics, mobility, and advanced materials upon delegation.

The Head of Mobility ASIA is essential to the strategy development, adaptation and implementation according to regional needs. The position involves critical decision making to achieve short- and mid-term business targets and ensure long-term sustainable success in the ASIA and global Mobility markets. The incumbent is responsible for the development of the ASIA Mobility organization as well as of individuals and is a change catalyst for establishing a diverse, high-performance team with an inclusive and very future-oriented mindset.

As EP country representative in Japan, the Head of Mobility ASIA strengthens EP’s and Covestro’s credibility and long-term positioning in the Japanese market and enables senior-level customer and stakeholder relationships that support sustainable growth across businesses.

Qualifications and Experience

• Master’s or bachelor's degree in a business or relevant technical discipline coupled with a minimum of ten years’ experience in sales or marketing related to industrial products – ideally in an international/intercultural context. An MBA degree or equivalent is desirable.

• Sound knowledge of EP products as well as regional and global EP and Mobility markets including suppliers, competitors, competitive products and applications.

• In-depth understanding of the ASIA and global automotive industry including ongoing major trends and familiarity with key customers and their supplier, customer, and end-user relationships.

• Distinct customer-centric mindset with excellent negations skills, strong value selling skills and hunter mentality.

• Strong analytical, strategic and conceptual capabilities combined with creative thinking.

• Excellent implementations capabilities and proven track-record of delivering results.

• Proven track-record of leading large, diverse, geographically remote and virtual teams as well as successful change management, preferably in an international business environment. Open mindset with strong transformational leadership, proven track-record of building highly effective teams and shaping a strong performance culture.

• Strong capability of formulating business tactics and defining operational directions for team members, strong execution skills.

• Very effective communication as well as interface management skills in order to operate successfully in a matrix organization, capable in making tough decision and giving candid feedback.

• Good interpersonal skills, being inclusive and an excellent team player.

• Excellent Japanese and English speaking and writing skills. Japanese native speaker skills are desirable.
