Job Brief

The Head of Risk leads Moneybox's second line risk function. You will own the Risk Management Framework, provide independent oversight and challenge across the firm's principal risks, and give the Executive and Board a clear, forward-looking view of our risk profile.

You will report to the VP Risk & Compliance and lead a team of Risk Business Partners, each aligned to Operations, Technology & AI, and Central Functions. Working alongside the Compliance, Financial Crime and Data Protection teams, you will be the senior risk voice in executive governance and attend the Board Risk Committee where required. This role is not an SMF role.

Moneybox is at an important point in its growth. In your first six to twelve months you will strengthen and embed the Risk Management Framework, build out the Risk Business Partner model, establish proportionate second line oversight of the ICARA and wind-down plan and, with SMEs, support the development of our approach to model and AI risk as new propositions come to market

What You'll Do

    ● Own, maintain and continually improve the Risk Management Framework, including the risk policy, taxonomy, risk and control self-assessment, incident and KRI standards, so that risk is identified, assessed and managed consistently across the firm.

    ● Lead, develop and coach the Risk Business Partner team, so that each function has a single, consistent second line partner with the specialist expertise to support and challenge it.

    ● Provide independent second line oversight and challenge of the firm's principal risks, including operational, operational resilience, third-party, technology, cyber, data, model and strategy execution risk, escalating issues where risk sits outside appetite.

    ● Oversee and challenge the ICARA and wind-down plan owned by Finance, ensuring scenarios and stress tests are credible, regularly reviewed and reflect market conditions, so the firm is well prepared for supervisory review.

    ● Maintain the risk appetite framework with the Executive and Board, monitoring performance against appetite and reporting breaches and trends promptly.

    ● Produce clear, insightful risk reporting and MI for the Executive, Risk Committee and Board Risk Committee, attending the Board Risk Committee where required to present the second line view.

    ● Provide independent risk opinions on material change, new products and propositions, outsourcing and strategic decisions, so the business can grow within appetite.

    ● Build and embed a proportionate second line approach to model and AI risk, including the advice engine, working with outsourced model validation providers.

    ● Support first line risk owners to own their risks and report on them, including KRIs, top risks and control effectiveness, through guidance, training and constructive challenge.

    ● Lead emerging and strategic risk horizon scanning, ensuring the Executive and Board understand how the risk landscape is evolving.

    ● Support regulatory engagement on risk matters, including remediation activity and supervisory requests, working closely with the VP Risk & Compliance.

    ● Drive the effective use of the GRC system and automation in risk processes and reporting, improving efficiency and the quality of risk insight.

Who You Are

    ● You give a clear, independent view and hold it under pressure, while staying pragmatic about how the business can achieve its goals.

    ● You are commercially minded and see good risk management as something that enables safe growth, not a brake on it.

    ● You build trusted relationships at every level, from first line teams to the Executive and Board.

    ● You enjoy building things, and are comfortable shaping frameworks and a team in a fast-growing, evolving business.

    ● You communicate complex risk issues simply, in writing and in person, so others can make informed decisions.

    ● You lead by developing people, and want to grow a capable, motivated team of Risk Business Partners.

Experience & Skills

    Essential

    ● Significant experience in a second line risk role within FCA-regulated financial services, ideally in a wealth management, investment platform or similar consumer-facing business.

    ● Proven track record of designing, embedding and improving a Risk Management Framework and risk appetite framework in a growing firm.

    ● Strong working knowledge of FCA expectations for risk management, including SYSC, PRIN, Consumer Duty and operational resilience.

    ● Experience overseeing or challenging the ICARA, stress testing and wind-down planning under MIFIDPRU.

    ● Experience producing risk reporting for, and presenting to, executive and Board-level committees.

    ● Experience leading and developing a team of risk professionals.

    ● Experience of risk and control self-assessment, KRIs, incident management and GRC systems.

    Nice to have

    ● Experience of model risk or AI risk governance.

    ● Exposure to financial advice, CASS or platform-specific risks.

    ● A relevant professional qualification, such as IRM, PRM, FRM or the CISI risk qualifications.

What's in it for you?

    ● Opportunity to join a fast-growing, award-winning and super ambitious company.

    ● Work with a friendly team of highly motivated individuals.

    ● Be in an environment where you are listened to and can actually have an impact.

    ● Thriving collaborative and inclusive company culture.

    ● Company pension scheme.

    ● Company bonus scheme

    ● Hybrid working environment.

    ● Home office furniture allowance.

    ● Personal Annual Learning and Development budget.

    ● Private Medical Insurance.

    ● Health Cash Plan - cashback on everyday healthcare like dental and opticians.

    ● Cycle to work scheme - spread the cost of a new bike and accessories.

    ● CycleSaver - save on bike-share subscriptions and have a more sustainable commute.

    ● Wellhub subscription to a variety of gyms and wellbeing apps.

    ● Enhanced parental pay & leave.

    ● 25 days holiday + bank holidays with additional days added with length of service.

What We Do

At Moneybox, we help you turn your money into something greater. Millions of us want to achieve more with our money. But whether we’re looking to save for a rainy day, grow our money, buy a home, or even build a retirement fund, we leave it at the bottom of our to-do lists because we're not sure how to get started. This isn’t surprising. We aren’t taught about financial planning at school, the wealth industry was built to serve a minority, and it often feels like banks don’t care about helping us achieve outcomes. To top it off, the financial services industry is fragmented and confusing. This means that our money often isn’t working hard enough and our goals are much harder to achieve. So, we made a solution. We've brought saving, investing, home-buying, and retirement services together into one simple app. So people can reach their goals and build wealth with confidence, whatever their starting point. We want to help people build wealth, but our mission goes beyond that. We believe that building wealth isn’t simply about accumulating more money. It’s about going after the life you want and enjoying it to the fullest, today and tomorrow. This is what it means to turn your money into something greater.
