Role Purpose:

APM terminals has embarked on an exciting new growth strategy. Based on its vast experience and internationally recognized processes we aim to have a best-in-class implementation setup through standardized and optimized clear processes whilst managing an agile team to enable delivery. This setup will enable successful evaluation and delivery of various types of projects including large new capital investments, integration of mergers and acquisitions and expansions of existing facilities.

Our ability to deliver projects firstly to our business needs as well as within their set parameters of HSSE, budget, scope, time, quality in a total integrated manner, delivers real value to the company. We build on and aim to continuously improve our project management framework to increase the incremental value delivered to the APM Terminals business.

The Global Head of PMO will own PMO and Contract Management discipline for the growth pipeline form an implementation perspective, be accountable for the adherence and strengthening of the corporate stage gate processes and drive team prioritization accordingly.

The key purpose of this position is to lead a Project Management Office responsible for maintaining and improving the overall process, the tools, processes, and standards regarding project management and to actively drive, support and govern their deployment within our portfolio. Ensure we transparently and proactively manage all risks and opportunities associated to projects from a PMO perspective.

The team will coordinate permanent and temporary PMO resources to be allocated for the various project needs globally.

The second part of the role is to establish and drive a corporate Contract Management setup whereby individual implementations are supported with centralized knowledge, best practices and standardization as during execution active contract management forms a primary part of our global project management capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management Leadership:

  • Lead, manage, and coordinate a global team of Project Management Officers and specialists.
  • Own and enhance the implementation stage gate process, ensuring strict adherence and driving project prioritization.
  • Develop and maintain project management standards, tools, and processes in alignment with corporate standards and best practices.
  • Oversee the deployment of PMO resources across various projects, ensuring optimal support and resource allocation.

Project Execution and Governance:

  • Ensure robust project scheduling, cost management, risk management, and reporting for all projects.
  • Collaborate closely with the Investments team to support proactive resource deployment and management for new business cases and projects.
  • Lead the implementation of project management standards across all projects, ensuring adherence to APMT’s project lifecycle and project execution frameworks.
  • Drive effective performance management and reporting across the project portfolio, providing transparency and insights to key stakeholders.

Contract Management:

  • Establish and lead a corporate contract management setup, supporting individual projects with centralized knowledge, best practices, and standardization.
  • Manage and coordinate contract management resources, ensuring proactive contract administration and compliance with international standards.
  • Support project teams in contract strategy development and execution, including claim management and dispute resolution.

Strategic Development and Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Work closely with internal stakeholders, including the Head of Portfolio, functional heads, and project teams, to maximize value delivery for the business.
  • Represent the Business Implementation function in wider organizational strategic initiatives, contributing to the overall strategic development of the team.
  • Maintain effective communication and relationships with all project stakeholders, ensuring alignment and collaboration across the organization.

Risk and Opportunity Management:

  • Ensure all projects maintain forward-looking risk registers and develop mitigation strategies for identified risks.
  • Proactively manage project risks and opportunities, addressing issues before they impact project delivery.

Operational Excellence and Safety:

  • Support the project Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) function to maintain high safety standards across all projects.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, leveraging new techniques and methodologies to enhance project management practices.

Qualifications and Experience:

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in project management within a heavy industry environment, with a focus on large-scale projects (> $100 million USD).
  • Extensive experience in project controls, project execution, and contract management.
  • Strong background in using project management methodologies, such as APM and PMBOK.
  • Experience with project management software, such as Primavera and PMWeb, is preferred.
  • Knowledge of FIDIC contracts and experience with international contract standards is an advantage.

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and team management abilities, capable of motivating and guiding diverse teams to achieve project success.
  • Proven ability to balance strategic vision with operational excellence, ensuring project outcomes align with business objectives.
  • High level of discipline, attention to detail, and commitment to quality and safety standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on proactive risk and issue management.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience in navigating complex multicultural environments.

Education:

  • MSc in Project Management, Construction Management, or a related field.
