What you’ll do:

  • Team Leadership & Talent Development: Lead, recruit, develop, mentor, and manage a high-performing, multi-disciplined engineering team. Key performance is measured by employee retention rate, active development plans, internal promotion rate, and team engagement scores.

  • New Product Development (NPD) Delivery: Oversee the end-to-end delivery of New Product Developments, ensuring they meet global customer requirements, quality, budget, and transition into production at pace.

  • Strategic Design Governance & Quality Assurance: Provide comprehensive design governance to ensure all product innovations meet rigorous specifications, aggressive timelines, budget parameters, and exceptional quality benchmarks. Monitor non-conformances, design review pass rates, and reduction in design-related warranty claims.

  • Sustained Engineering & Product Platform Management: Strategically deliver critical manufactured product platform upgrade projects and essential retrofits to ensure uninterrupted supply and unparalleled service continuity. KPIs include project completion rates, post-upgrade reliability, customer satisfaction for service continuity, and reduced unplanned maintenance.

  • Budget & Capacity Management: Prepare and manage the annual engineering function budget, including effective capacity planning to support production plans and product line demands. Performance is measured by budget variance, engineering resource utilization, and capacity fulfilment rates.

  • Engineering Change Management (ECM) & Business Value: Own, continually develop, and maintain robust engineering change management processes for appropriate governance, efficient execution, and demonstrable business value from engineering investments. Track average ECO cycle time, on-time implementation, investment ROI, and reduced rework.

  • Technical Compliance & Standard Adherence: Accountable for overall technical compliance, ensuring all product designs and engineering processes rigorously adhere to relevant design standards, regulatory requirements, and internal quality protocols. Monitor successful audit rates, non-compliance findings, product safety/environmental compliance, and timely policy updates.

You are:

  • Educational Background & Experience: A good degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, ideally coupled with formal training in product development and design, and significant proven management experience within the power generation packaging industry.

  • Senior Leadership & Industry Expertise: 15+ years of senior leadership experience in a design/development role within a commercially demanding manufacturing environment, specifically a large-scale global OEM in the power generation sector.

  • Strategic & Pragmatic Design Approach: Demonstrated ability to balance technical excellence with commercial benefits, applying a hands-on and pragmatic approach to design investment and achieving quality deliverables under pressure.

  • Team Development & Leadership: Proven capability to develop, coach, mentor, motivate, and drive a team of professional engineers, fostering their growth and ensuring high performance.

  • Process & Quality Acumen: Experience with controlled simultaneous engineering, stage-gated Product Development processes, and adherence to ISO9001 Quality Assurance systems, with an ability to quickly identify and resolve critical issues.
