As the Head of Product Design at Malt, you will lead a high-impact segment of our design organization, acting as a strategic partner in shaping how freelancers and clients connect, transact, and collaborate globally.
Your mission is to elevate Malt’s core product experience by connecting exceptional user experiences directly to commercial growth. Under your leadership, your initiatives will drive demonstrable lifts in core user health metrics, conversion funnels, and key commercial KPIs. You will ensure the product design function is staffed with top talent, fostering a culture of strong psychological safety and maintaining a high craft quality bar.
Reporting to Stefanie Fleisch (VP of Design), you will take a holistic view of our primary product domains. Your goal is to break down feature silos across multi-squad streams, delivering cohesive user journeys that are intuitive, clean, and built to scale.
Key Responsabilities ✨
People Leadership: Proactively develop strategies to accelerate team growth and independently manage your team’s performance. Foster an environment of open feedback and run an effective meeting cadence.
Experience Strategy & Roadmap: Define the overarching experience strategy and directly influence multi-team roadmaps, connecting the user experience to commercial growth.
Craft Direction & Vision: Set the aesthetic vision and interaction bar for your product area, translating brand strategy into specific design principles and facilitating high-standard critiques.
User Discovery & Research: Instill consistent, data-informed discovery habits across your teams. Initiate and drive strategic initiatives for the systematic collection of quantitative and qualitative user data.
Velocity & Execution: Optimize our design-to-delivery lifecycle. Help teams navigate the balance between shipping fast MVPs and investing time into polished, highly refined user flows.
Cross-Functional Alignment: Maintain a close partnership with product and tech leadership peers to influence product strategy and secure tech investment for a best-in-class user experience that unlocks commercial growth.
System-level Thinking: Partner with the Experience Systems & AI team to drive AI workflow automation and directly contribute to the core principles and architectural requirements informing the design system strategy.
AI Workflow Transformation: Evaluate, pilot, and establish operational standards and tooling for AI-assisted design across multiple teams to accelerate discovery, generation, and delivery cycles.

Management Track Record: You have a proven history of directly managing and developing design talent within fast-paced product organizations.
Strategic Alignment: You treat design as a core business lever. You understand product metrics, conversion funnels, and marketplace dynamics.
AI User Experience: Hands-on experience tackling unique UX patterns for generative AI, such as designing for non-deterministic model outputs, prompt-guiding interfaces, or trust and transparency in AI-driven automation.
Interaction & UX Foundations: You excel at handling platform complexity across multiple domains. You know how to translate dense data states, complex workflows, and multi-sided user funnels into simple, predictable interfaces.
Data & Insights Driven: You value evidence over bias, routinely leveraging user research and product analytics to validate your team’s design choices.
B2B / Marketplace Experience: A solid background or preferred experience in B2B platforms or multi-sided digital marketplaces.
Language: Fluency in English is required.
