Head Nurse

The Clinic Head Nurse is accountable for the effective supervision and clinical leadership of a nursing unit in accordance with the Clinic philosophy, policies, procedures, plans and organization.

• Performs clinical nursing procedures including starting IV's, administering chemotherapy, performing electrocardiographs, and EKG's, assuring drug cart is stocked properly.
• Assist physician with various clinical procedures.
• Assumes duties of LPN as required.
• Accepts telephone calls from patients and their families and counsels them concerning their illness, condition, and medicine.
• Provides patient education as required.
• Assures that patient forms are completed and that insurance coverage is verified and that Medicaid will pay for prescription medicines.
• Secures pre-authorization prior to physician admitting patient to hospital, observation unit, and outpatient surgery to assure proper payment is received.
• Schedules patients for surgery at various ARH hospitals and assures that pre-operation work-up is completed.
• Interviews, selects, develops, promotes, transfers, disciplines and terminates personnel under his/her supervision or recommends such action.
• Develops work schedules and assignments on basis of patient needs, and assures adequate staff is available to assist physicians.
• Develops and maintains safety plans for employees and patients including fire drills and bomb threats and implements OSHA plans.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• LPN required.

• RN preferred.

• Minimum of two (2) years of nursing supervisory experience required.

• Demonstrated management skills.

• Demonstrated clerical skills.

• Strong leadership and organizational abilities.

• Ability to effectively supervise and support nursing staff.

• Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
