Why does this job exist and why is it critical?​

  • Work collaboratively with the business to identify savings opportunities during annual budget drafting by analysing spend data and market trends to propose cost-effective procurement strategies.
  • Proactively plan the sourcing events for the year with the Head of Division and his/her direct reports and secure alignments and buy-ins by developing a comprehensive sourcing calendar and presenting clear business cases.
  • Guide his/her category managers on tender strategy preparation by providing expert advice on market approaches, supplier selection criteria, and negotiation tactics to ensure optimal outcomes.
  • Guide his/her category managers on reviewing tender submissions by establishing clear evaluation frameworks and ensuring impartial assessment to select the best-value proposals.
  • Review the tender strategy/outcome with all stakeholders prior to presenting for final approval/award by facilitating collaborative review sessions, ensuring transparency and addressing any concerns before finalising procurement decisions.
  • Ensure the procurement cycle time is optimum and the sourcing activities are completed within the agreed timeline by proactively identifying and resolving obstacles and streamlining processes.
  • Proactively plan resources for his/her unit and mobilise accordingly by forecasting workload, allocating personnel effectively, and ensuring the team has the necessary tools and support.
  • Guide and coach his/her team members by providing regular feedback, identifying development opportunities, and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and high performance.

  • Experience analysing spend data and market trends to identify savings opportunities
  • Proven experience in procurement/sourcing strategy and annual sourcing planning
  • Experience preparing and reviewing tender strategies and evaluation frameworks
  • Strong supplier selection, negotiation and commercial assessment skills
  • Track record of optimising procurement cycle times and meeting sourcing timelines
  • Resource planning and team mobilisation experience for procurement units
  • People leadership, coaching and performance management experience
  • Stakeholder management and ability to present business cases to secure buy-in
