Job Description

About the Role:

As Head of Investments Legal, Asia Pacific, based in Hong Kong and reporting to the Head of Legal, Asia Pacific, you will lead legal support for the region’s investment, trading and operational activities, with a particular focus on private markets and investment-related matters. You will act as a senior legal adviser to investment, trading and business leaders, provide clear and commercially grounded advice on complex legal and regulatory issues, and help drive coordinated regional legal support across APAC.

You are:

A seasoned investment management lawyer with deep private funds formation expertise and exposure to multiple asset classes. You combine technical strength with commercial judgment, strategic thinking and the ability to solve complex, nuanced problems pragmatically. You act as a credible thought partner to senior stakeholders and are comfortable working close to the business while maintaining sound risk judgment and professional independence. You bring a “getting to yes” mindset, balanced by the maturity and confidence to articulate risk clearly, have difficult conversations constructively and lead teams with clarity, humility and resilience.

The role also offers the opportunity to contribute to broader regional and global legal initiatives, including regulatory, fund-related and investment management matters supporting Invesco’s public-side businesses.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Lead, coach and develop lawyers supporting investment, trading and operations teams across the full investment lifecycle.

  • Serve as a trusted legal adviser and thought partner to Invesco’s private markets funds business, including the structuring, formation, launch and maintenance of real estate and other alternative investment funds.

  • Oversee the drafting, review and negotiation of private funds documentation, including private placement memoranda, limited partnership agreements, subscription agreements, side letters and related materials, and advise on fund formation, governance, operations, distribution, marketing and investor relations.

  • Manage external legal counsel, tax advisers and regulatory consultants efficiently and commercially.

  • Advise on legal and regulatory issues arising from investment research, portfolio management, trading, market access, collateral management, corporate actions and transaction reporting.

  • Oversee investment-related legal documentation, governance processes, precedents, know-how, documentation standards and record-keeping practices.

  • Provide leadership and subject matter expertise on regulatory change projects affecting investment activities in Asia Pacific.

  • Act as a senior legal adviser to management and business stakeholders, translating complex legal issues into clear, practical and commercially grounded advice.

  • Support the Head of Legal, Asia Pacific and partner with country and regional legal leaders to deliver coordinated, high-quality legal support across APAC.

  • Collaborate with legal colleagues globally and with Compliance, Risk, Human Resources, Finance and business teams to support effective legal and regulatory outcomes.

  • Contribute to regional legal projects, initiatives and business enquiries requiring senior legal judgment and cross-functional coordination.

Experience and capabilities:

  • Significant experience, ideally 15+ years, at a top-tier law firm, financial services institution or asset management firm, with deep exposure to investment, trading and transactional legal matters across multiple asset classes.

  • Deep understanding of private fund structures, including closed-end and open-ended funds focused on illiquid asset classes such as real estate and private equity, and the legal frameworks applicable in key jurisdictions.

  • Strong technical grounding in trading documentation, investment instruments and structures, regulatory frameworks, underwriting concepts and market terminology.

  • Proven ability to lead, coach and develop legal professionals, setting clear direction, delegating effectively and driving high-quality execution across multiple workstreams.

  • Strong commercial judgment and pragmatic problem-solving skills, with the ability to balance a “getting to yes” mindset with clear risk assessment and constructive challenge.

  • Credibility, presence and communication skills to influence senior stakeholders, build trusted relationships and explain complex legal and regulatory issues clearly.

  • Experience working directly with investment, trading and front-office teams, and managing outside counsel efficiently and commercially.

  • Collaborative leadership style, with the ability to build alignment, influence outcomes and foster a “one team” culture across regions and functions.

  • Resilience, adaptability and sound judgment in a fast-moving environment, with the ability to maintain quality, momentum and responsiveness under pressure.

  • Excellent analytical, drafting, negotiation and consensus-building skills.

  • Unquestionable ethics, integrity and professional judgment, with the maturity to have difficult conversations constructively and without ego.

  • Loyalty, humility and team spirit, with a commitment to operating as part of a regional and global legal team.
