Key Responsibilities
Investment Strategy & Planning
Develop and implement JIB's investment strategy in alignment with the organisation's growth objectives, capital structure targets, and risk appetite as approved by the Director of International Business.
Conduct market and sector analysis to identify investment opportunities, financing gaps, and capital market trends relevant to JIB's international operations.
Prepare and present investment strategy papers, capital allocation recommendations, and annual investment plans to senior management.
Assess and advise on optimal capital structure across JIB's country operations, balancing equity, debt, blended finance, and grant funding.
Monitor macro-economic, political, and regulatory developments across JIB's operating markets and assess their impact on investment strategy.
Deal Origination & Investment Analysis
Originate and evaluate investment and financing opportunities including project finance, equity investments, joint ventures, public-private partnerships (PPPs), and blended finance structures.
Lead the preparation of financial models, investment appraisals, feasibility studies, and business cases for proposed investments and financing transactions.
Conduct due diligence on investment opportunities including financial, legal, technical, and environmental/social assessments in coordination with relevant internal teams and external advisors.
Assess and quantify investment risks; develop risk mitigation frameworks and present findings to management with clear recommendations.
Identify and pursue grant funding, concessional finance, and climate finance opportunities from multilateral and bilateral donors.
Deal Structuring & Execution
Lead the structuring, negotiation, and closing of investment and financing transactions, including equity raises, project finance facilities, bond issuances, and blended finance instruments.
Coordinate transaction execution teams including legal counsel, financial advisors, technical experts, and internal stakeholders to ensure timely and successful deal close.
Prepare and review term sheets, investment agreements, shareholder agreements, financing documentation, and other transaction documents.
Manage regulatory and approval processes related to investment transactions across multiple jurisdictions.
Ensure all transactions are structured in compliance with applicable laws, tax regulations, and Jospong Group governance requirements.
Investor & Funder Relations
Build and maintain strong relationships with a diverse range of capital providers including DFIs (IFC, AfDB, Proparco, DEG, FMO, etc.), private equity funds, sovereign wealth funds, commercial banks, and institutional investors.
Lead investor engagement processes including roadshows, due diligence facilitation, and investment committee presentations.
Prepare high-quality investor presentations, information memoranda, and investment reports.
Manage ongoing reporting and compliance obligations to investors and lenders including covenant reporting, financial information packages, and ESG disclosures.
Represent JIB at investment conferences, forums, and industry events to enhance the organisation's profile with the investment community.
Portfolio Management & Performance Monitoring
Oversee the performance of JIB's investment portfolio; monitor financial returns, covenant compliance, and value creation against investment objectives.
Prepare regular investment portfolio reports for the Director of International Business covering performance, risks, and strategic recommendations.
Manage exit strategies and refinancing activities for maturing investments as appropriate.
Ensure all portfolio investments adhere to applicable environmental, social, and governance (ESG) standards required by investors and JIB's own policies.
Conduct periodic investment reviews and present findings and recommendations to senior management.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Work closely with the Treasury team on liquidity planning, debt management, and hedging strategies linked to investment activities.
Collaborate with Business Development on investment components of new market entry, concession bids, and strategic partnerships.
Partner with Legal to ensure all investment and financing documentation is properly reviewed and executed.
Provide investment and financial analysis inputs to the annual budgeting, strategic planning, and capital expenditure approval processes.
Support M&A evaluation, joint venture structuring, and country expansion initiatives as required.
Team Leadership
Build and lead a high-performing investment team; provide mentoring, coaching, and professional development to direct reports.
Set clear performance objectives for investment team members and conduct regular appraisals.
Foster a culture of analytical rigour, commercial acumen, and integrity within the investment function.
Perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of International Business.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree (MBA, MSc Finance, or MSc Economics) is strongly preferred.
CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation is highly desirable; ACA, ACCA, or equivalent professional qualification is an advantage.
Membership of a relevant professional or investment body (e.g. CISI, AIMA, African Venture Capital Association) is an added advantage.
Experience
Minimum of 10–12 years of experience in investment management, project finance, corporate finance, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a senior investment leadership role.
Proven track record of originating, structuring, and closing complex investment transactions including project finance, equity investments, PPPs, and blended finance deals.
Significant experience engaging with development finance institutions (DFIs) and international capital markets.
Demonstrated experience managing investment portfolios and investor/lender relationships in a multi-country environment.
Prior experience in Africa, infrastructure, waste management, utilities, or environmental services sectors is strongly preferred.
Technical Skills
Expert-level financial modelling skills project finance, DCF, LBO, and returns analysis.
In-depth knowledge of investment structures including project finance, structured equity, blended finance, PPPs, green bonds, and climate finance instruments.
Strong understanding of DFI requirements including ESG standards (IFC Performance Standards, Equator Principles, GRI) and compliance frameworks.
Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); familiarity with Bloomberg, CapIQ, or similar financial platforms is an advantage.
Strong legal and commercial literacy ability to review and negotiate investment documentation.
