The RoleReporting to the COO, Simbe's Director of FP&A will own financial planning, forecasting, and the financial story we tell our Board, investors, and lenders.
This is a hands-on, high-visibility seat for someone who wants direct ownership of the model and the numbers — operating with startup speed and the rigor of a much larger finance organization.
Longer term, this role is about building an IPO-ready FP&A function: planning, reporting, and systems that scale with Simbe rather than needing to be rebuilt later.
Responsibilities
- Own the Model, Budget & Cash
- Own and continuously evolve Simbe's 3-statement financial model; run scenario analysis (pricing, hiring, capex, deployment pace) to guide real business improvement decisions.
Lead the annual budget and quarterly re-forecast cycle across departments; track actuals vs. budget monthly and flag material variances before they become surprises.
Continuously assess headcount and other incremental investment needs, and build the timely, data-backed business case for the ones that make sense, rather than waiting for the next budget cycle.
Own the cash forecast. Maintain a rolling short- and long-range cash view, tighten cash monitoring, and shorten the cash collection cycle.
Own Board, Investor & Lender ReportingBuild the monthly and quarterly financial reporting package (balance sheet, income statement, cash flow) and own the relevant parts of the Board deck for quarterly meetings.
Respond to investor and lender reporting requests, manage the day-to-day relationship with financing partners on debt tied to manufacturing and other operations, and support borrowing formula/compliance reporting.
Support fundraising strategy, preparation, and due-diligence follow-up, with an eye toward the reporting rigor and data discipline an eventual IPO will demand, and keep Simbe's data room current.
Drive Business Performance & SystemsRepresent Finance in Simbe's monthly S&OP process; work with S&OP to define and instrument the vital metrics for the business, and own the balanced scorecard that tracks them.
Drive insights from that data into the business - not just report trends, but push the specific changes in pricing, spend, or operations that move financial results.
Partner directly with department leaders (Sales, Operations, Manufacturing, Product) to pressure-test their numbers, flag spend trends, and drive cost discipline.
Own and advance Simbe's use of our FP&A platform - driving adoption, new use cases, and integrations with our broader financial systems — and push AI and automation into forecasting, reporting, and reconciliation work, partnering with the Controller where it touches accounting or tax.
Required Qualifications
10+ years of progressive finance experience, including FP&A leadership, in a high growth technology company.
Experience owning a company-wide financial model and running scenario analysis for executive decision-making.
Experience running Board reporting and supporting fundraising, investor, and/or lender relationships.
Experience with cash forecasting, cash collection cycle management, and disciplined cash management.
Detail-oriented, with the ability to zoom out. Equally comfortable in the model and in front of management.
Strong, direct communicator who can partner cross-functionally and with executive leadership.
Hands-on experience owning an FP&A/planning platform (Planful, Adaptive Insights, Pigment, or Anaplan also relevant). Ability to drive adoption and new use cases and efficiency.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with BI/reporting tools (e.g., Looker, Tableau).
Experience managing venture debt or banking relationships.
Experience with Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) or similar processes connecting an operating plan to a financial plan.
Experience with hardware, SaaS, subscription, or hardware-as-a-service business models - robotics or connected devices a plus.
Venture-backed or private-equity-backed company experience.
Demonstrated experience applying AI tooling to finance, accounting, or tax workflows.
