We are now seeking a strategic and experienced leader to serve as Head of Australia ETF Capital Markets, based in Melbourne.
The Opportunity
This senior leadership role will oversee Vanguard’s ETF Capital Markets strategy and operations across Australia. You will lead a high-performing team focused on optimizing ETF trading quality, market structure engagement, and client education, while driving innovation and operational excellence in a dynamic and expanding ETF ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the Australia ETF Capital Markets team, with direct oversight of Vanguard’s Australia domiciled ETF fund line up.
Serve as a member of the Global ETF Capital Markets Leadership Team, reporting to the Global Head of ETF Capital Markets, while collaborating locally with the Regional CIO to align global strategy with regional priorities.
Represent Vanguard in regulatory consultations, industry forums, and market structure discussions.
Build and maintain strategic relationships with exchanges, market makers, index providers, and institutional clients.
Monitor and enhance ETF trading performance, including spread analysis, execution quality, and premium/discount behavior.
Oversee the Capital Markets component of all ETF product launches, ensuring seamless operational and trading readiness.
Educate financial advisers and partners on ETF trading best practices, portfolio implementation, and liquidity strategies.
Manage Lead Market Maker agreements, including oversight of authorized market-making partners and coordination with custodial partners.
Collaborate with internal teams—portfolio management, trading, legal, compliance, and product—to support complex transactions and optimize the ETF creation/redemption process.
Contribute to global initiatives and cross-border projects, ensuring alignment with Vanguard’s global ETF strategy.
Mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
What It Takes
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience, including 5+ years in ETF capital markets, equity trading, or investment management; supervisory experience preferred.
Deep understanding of ETF mechanics, market structure, and liquidity provisioning across Australia.
Proven leadership in managing cross-functional teams and complex operational initiatives.
Strong communication and relationship management skills, with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
Experience in handling media engagements and presenting at industry events is preferred but not required.
Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, or related field required; advanced degree or CFA designation preferred.
Willingness to periodically travel to Sydney to attend industry events and maintain relationships with key business partners.
