Head of Engineering
WME is seeking a hands-on Head of Engineering to architect and build the enterprise software platforms that power the agency’s day-to-day operations.
WME is at a real inflection point. The agency runs on deep relationships, hard-won experience, and complex workflows that have grown over decades. Much of that knowledge still lives in people, spreadsheets, and disconnected tools. We are changing that.
This role leads that shift. We are looking for a senior technical leader who designs modern systems, engages directly in execution, and makes architectural decisions where the tradeoffs are real—modernizing live systems while the business continues to run, and turning complex, real-world workflows into durable, scalable software.
The ideal candidate has built systems and teams through real scale and understands the business impact of technical decisions. This is a role for someone who wants to build something that lasts—technically, organizationally, and economically.
The role reports to WME’s SVP of Product & Engineering and is based in Los Angeles.
What You’ll Do
- Build platforms the business trusts. Design shared services, APIs, data models, and infrastructure with strong guarantees around reliability, privacy, access control, and auditability.
- Set technical direction and make real tradeoffs. Architect and evolve core enterprise systems, balancing speed, cost, quality, security, and long-term scalability.
- Design for integration and leverage. Build systems that integrate cleanly across teams, partners, and future acquisitions.
- Modernize live systems end to end. Incrementally evolve production systems, own them in operation, and improve them without disrupting the business.
- Operate as a cross-functional product team. Start from real user workflows, partner closely with Product and Design, and move quickly from prototype to production through iteration.
- Ship early, learn fast. Favor small teams, fast feedback loops, and continuous improvement over heavy upfront planning.
- Lead as a hands-on builder. Stay deeply involved in system design, prototyping, and technical decision-making when it matters.
- Build the engineering organization. Hire and develop engineers while setting a high bar for quality, ownership, and accountability through example.
- Measure outcomes, not activity. Use metrics to connect system health and adoption to real business impact.
- Serve as technical authority. Advise executives on architecture, risk, scalability, and tradeoffs with strong judgment and taste.
What We’re Looking For
- Deep experience building and evolving production software systems.
- Proven success leading scale transitions—from fragmented architectures to cohesive, production-grade platforms.
- Experience standing up an in-house engineering team from scratch and scaling it through early growth.
- Strong architectural judgment in environments where uptime, correctness, security, and risk matter.
- Experience with transaction-heavy, workflow-driven systems such as CRM, deal management, payments, or financial platforms.
- Hands-on experience designing and operating cloud-based systems (Azure preferred).
- Comfort owning systems end to end, across services, APIs, data platforms, and full-stack applications.
- Strong product intuition and the ability to tie technical decisions to measurable business outcomes.
- Must have personally designed and shipped production software systems, not just overseen their delivery.
