Job Summary
The Head of Engineering, Mobility Essentials will develop and execute a comprehensive engineering strategy encompassing technical research, development, and support activities for the Mobility Essentials Business Line. This includes oversight of the Cubic Transportation Systems (CTS) Platforms, as well as the Umo and cFlex product lines.
The role involves coordinating the design, development, and modification of existing and new products within our Amazon Web Services (AWS) environment while collaborating on architectural development with the Head of Mobility Essentials Architecture. The Head of Engineering ensures engineering tasks are fully resourced, budgets are met, and projects align with strategic business objectives.
This position reports directly to the Vice President and General Manager of Mobility Essentials and carries full people leadership responsibility for the Mobility Essentials engineering organization. The incumbent will exercise substantial discretionary decision-making authority and typically work under limited supervision.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategy

Provide leadership for design engineering, technical operations, and product quality to drive successful delivery of programs and contribute to the business strategy and overall product roadmap.

Build a best-in-class engineering, operations, and quality assurance team, utilizing global and external resources to produce high-quality products and drive innovation.

Establish long-term objectives and performance standards for the engineering department in alignment with business growth goals.

Foster a culture of creativity, collaboration, speed, innovation, excellence, and fun while modeling company values.
Engineering Operations

Manage technical staff resources to support projects, services, and R&D initiatives within the business line.

Oversee the design and build criteria for products and provide technical guidance on new concepts and projects.

Guide the optimization and scaling of the Mobility Essentials AWS platform for significant expansion of customers and transactions and position to extend globally.

Establish processes and metrics to optimize engineering efficiency and focus.
Project Management

Assure timely project completion within budget constraints while meeting objectives.

Evaluate cost-effectiveness, consistency, quality, accuracy, and performance standards, taking corrective actions when needed.

Review and control all engineering work, including project development, staff assignments, and application of engineering principles.
Team Growth and Development

Continuously improve the organizational structure to scale the engineering team in line with the company’s growth objectives.

Develop and retain top talent by cultivating an environment of professional growth and high performance.

Perform additional duties as assigned, as may be reasonably required by management.
Minimum Job Requirements
Skills, Knowledge, and Experience

Extensive experience in engineering and technical development.

Supervisory or management experience within a technology company.

Strong background in engineering development activities.

Strong experience with AWS, cloud-native, and SaaS environments.

Advanced technical and analytical skills for organizing, planning, and executing multiple programs.

Exceptional organizational, supervisory, and leadership skills to handle sensitive or complex situations effectively.
Education and Qualifications
Essential
-
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification in engineering or a related field, or demonstrable equivalent working experience.

Minimum of 10 years of experience in Engineering with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role, preferably in the payment or transportation industry.
Desirable

Master’s degree in engineering or a technical discipline.

Cubic Pay Range:
$240.000 - $270,000 + benefits.
The Cubic pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
