YOUR ROLE 

Genworth is undergoing a multi-year modernization of its insurance platforms, data ecosystem, and technology capabilities to support long term growth, operational excellence, and a more human-centered future. The Head of Engineering, Insurance and Business Operations is a transformational technology leader who will shape and deliver the insurance and business operations end-to-end technology strategy, spanning core insurance systems, digital experiences, data platforms, analytics enablement, integration, cloud, security, and operational reliability. 

Reporting directly to the Enterprise CIO, this executive serves on the Technology Leadership Team and the Genworth Insurance (Closed Block) senior leadership team, acting as a trusted partner to CareScout Insurance, Operations, Actuarial, Risk, Legal, and other IT leaders.  

What you will be doing 

1) Enterprise Engineering Strategy & Modernization 

  • Define and execute the insurance technology vision and multiyear roadmap aligned to Insurance business objectives (operational efficiency, product innovation, digital engagement, regulatory compliance). 

  • Lead modernization of legacy environments into cloud ready, API enabled, modular platforms across policy administration, claims, underwriting, billing, actuarial support, and digital servicing. 

  • Establish engineering excellence—modern development practices, automation, CI/CD, DevSecOps, site reliability engineering, and cloud native design—driving measurable improvements in speed, quality, resiliency, and cost. 

  • Build and scale high performing engineering organizations across application development, data engineering, integration, cloud engineering, platform operations, and DevOps. 

  • You’ll manage insurance IT investment portfolios and agile delivery outcomes; represent technology in insurance executive forums and steering committees; and communicate progress, risks, and performance to senior stakeholders.  

2) Data & Analytics Transformation 

  • Serve as the executive owner for the enterprise data platform and the divisional data engineering and analytics enablement; drive modernization of the data platform, data quality, data management, and governed data architecture. 

  • Advance a unified enterprise data strategy aligned with actuarial, finance, risk, claims, and operations—enabling real time insights, predictive models, AI/ML use cases, and digitally enabled customer experiences. 

  • Champion data literacy and value realization, tying data capabilities to concrete business outcomes and P&L impact. 

Business Operations 

  • Digitization of our business operations to enable improved customer experiences and streamlining of technology 

  • The scope of technology spans multiples aspects of business operations and customer interactions -  customer service, claims, call center and digital solutions  

 

3) Integration & Ecosystem Architecture 

  • Lead the integration strategy and enterprise services layer connecting core platforms with digital solutions, data ecosystems, and third party partners. 

  • Promote microservices, event driven patterns, and API marketplaces that accelerate feature delivery, interoperability, and compliance. 

4) Operational Excellence, Security & Governance 

  • Ensure high availability, resiliency, and performance for mission critical insurance systems; institute metrics driven engineering, end-to-end observability, and automated remediation. 

  • Strengthen engineering governance: secure coding, privacy by design, regulatory compliance, technical risk management, lifecycle management, and disaster recovery—working in partnership with centralized security and compliance teams.   

5) Business Partnership & Change Leadership 

  • Serve as primary technology partner to insurance divisional leaders, including operations; translate strategy into executable roadmaps and outcomes. 

  • Anticipate market and regulatory trends; cocreate business cases and value propositions for platform investments; drive continuous improvement and value added offerings for customers and distribution partners.  

6) Financial Management & Vendor Strategy 

  • Own divisional IT budgets and resources; optimize run vs change investments, unit costs, and vendor portfolios; ensure transparency and ROI.  

7) Talent, Culture & Executive Presence 

  • Build durable, empowered, high performing teams; recruit, mentor, and develop future leaders across engineering, architecture, and data. 

  • Model accountability, innovation, and transparency; communicate with clarity to influence Csuite, Boards, and regulatory audiences—operating with CIO level presence and judgment. 

 

What you bring 

 

Experience & Achievements 

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership across software engineering, platform development, data engineering, or enterprise technology—delivering at scale in insurance/financial services or similarly regulated industries. 

  • Track record modernizing complex, mission critical platforms: cloud migration, digital platforms, integration ecosystems, and core system renewal (policy, claims, billing, underwriting, actuarial). 

  • Demonstrated success leading large, multidisciplinary engineering and data organizations and partnering with actuarial, underwriting, claims, finance, and risk. 

  • Strong record of influencing Csuite, Board, and regulatory stakeholders; communicates complex technology simply and credibly. 

Technical & Strategic Capabilities 

  • Deep understanding of modern software engineering (microservices, APIs, eventing), cloud platforms, DevSecOps/CICD, reliability engineering, and platform operations. 

  • Enterprise data and cloud platform expertise, spanning lakehouse/warehouse architectures, data quality and governance, analytics and AI/ML enablement, and handson experience with Azure/AWS, container platforms, observability stacks, and MDM. 

  • Fluency in insurance domain concepts—policy lifecycle, claims operations, product structures, actuarial modeling support, and regulatory requirements. 

  • Ability to shape multi-year roadmaps and connect technical choices to financial, strategic, and risk based tradeoffs. 

  • Experience implementing or transforming core insurance platforms preferred (e.g., Guidewire, Duck Creek, EIS, Origami), including policy/claims/billing.
