Head of Data

Apify is built in Prague, but clients come from around the world - mostly the US. From nonprofits and Y Combinator startups to Fortune 500 companies like Microsoft and Samsung, plus government projects for the EU. We help clients improve their products, marketing, and business decisions using structured web data and automating repetitive tasks.

We are looking for a Head of Data to lead our growing Data team and transform how data drives decision-making across Apify. You will be an important partner to Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, and Customer Success, helping shape Apify's strategy, driving automation, and coaching a talented team of data engineers and analysts toward excellence.

This role combines leadership and technical skills. You will be a data strategist, hands-on builder, and team mentor.

• Lead and mentor a team of 6+ data engineers, fostering a culture of growth, collaboration, and continuous learning.

• Partner closely with leaders across departments to translate business needs into data strategy and actionable insights.

• Architect and improve our data infrastructure, pipelines, and tools, ensuring scalability, reliability, and fostering a self-serve data analytics culture.

• Help define and maintain company-wide metrics, dashboards, and reporting standards that provide clarity and focus.

• Partner with strategic initiatives such as customer lifetime value modeling, product usage analysis, funnel optimization, pricing insights, etc.

• Collaborate with Engineering and Product on data quality, event tracking, and platform-level data strategy.

• Proven experience in a data leadership role, ideally in a product-led or developer-first company.

• Strong background in data analytics, data engineering, or BI, with hands-on experience in SQL and modern data stacks.

• Demonstrated ability to translate business problems into data analysis and actionable outputs.

• Strong cross-functional collaboration skills. You know how to influence others without authority and make complex topics understandable to junior members of the Data team.

• Experience with mentoring and growing data professionals at various stages of their careers.

• Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution.

• Familiarity with tools like Keboola, Snowflake, Segment, or similar.

• Bonus: experience in companies dealing with web scraping or AI agents.

• Meet with key stakeholders across Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales to understand their priorities.

• Set up regular 1:1s with all Data team members to understand individual strengths, challenges, and aspirations.

• Develop a strong understanding of Apify's product, customers, and strategy.

• Review current data stack (warehouse, pipelines, dashboards, tracking, and data governance).

• Evaluate the current KPIs used by Apify's departments.

• Provide an actionable insight/report that influences a Product, Marketing, or Business decision.

• Present a new perspective on how Apify could better leverage data in strategy, operations, or product-led growth.

• Begin participating in team leader meetings and growth discussions as a data voice.

• Update a Data Strategy Roadmap aligned with the company vision and OKRs.

• Define roles and responsibilities within the Data team to ensure clarity and accountability.

• Launch regular rituals: team stand-ups, reviews, and personal development plans.

• Identify skill gaps and hire or upskill if needed (e.g., analytics engineering, ML, etc.).

• Manage a system for handling stakeholder requests and prioritizing high-value initiatives.

• Propose and begin executing improvements to the modern data stack (e.g., dbt models, data lineage, pipeline reliability).

• Address known data quality issues in at least one high-impact area.

• Contribute significantly to at least one company-wide initiative (e.g., pricing optimization, churn modeling, usage segmentation).
