As Head of Data Science, you’ll solve the most complex business problems, driving 6x ROI using data science methods and tools, while leveraging a team of data scientists and engineers. You’ll be the Product Owner of the bank-wide data science platform and tools, driving adoption and usage, including these platforms across India, as well as the Chief Digital and Information Office, and business teams. Alongside this, you’ll lead and grow the bank’s Data Science Community of Practice and ensure a steady flow of data talent into the bank.
You’ll own and drive a leading-edge data research agenda, developing new intellectual property and publishing peer-reviewed papers. You’ll lead the India team of DS&I data scientists and engineers to explore and demonstrate how new techniques can be applied to data. We'll look to you to create value across the business through transformational projects, while delivering prioritised use cases and working closely with stakeholders. Moreover, you’ll create academic and industry networks to support our influence, acting as the bank’s technical data science expert in India at industry forums and conferences as required.
In addition, you’ll be:
- Leading the India-focused education, selling and embedding developments in data science across the bank
- Leading the India Data Science Community Of Practice, driving the identification and delivery of opportunities to support the bank’s strategic direction through better use of data
- Acting as the pastoral lead for all DS&I resources in India
- Leading the Indian data science research and experimentation agenda to deepen the bank’s understanding of leading-edge analytical techniques, technologies, and tools
- Building the bank’s brand in global data science communities to drive a constant inflow of new talent into the bank
We’re looking for someone with deep experience of deploying data science techniques in industry, including the pragmatic implementation of AI solutions such as machine learning and generative AI, to drive transformational value. You’ll bring the ability to work with and influence business stakeholders and data science peers alike, using a combination of technical expertise and storytelling skills where appropriate.
To succeed in this role, you’ll need a broad and deep understanding of banking across all franchises and functions, from both a business and data perspective.
In addition, you’ll need:
- Experience deploying advanced data techniques including Python, Spark, and the AWS-stack such as SageMaker and ECS, across structured and unstructured data environments
- Strong team management and development skills in a technically complex environment
- To be a structured thinker with the ability to clarify and simplify complex ideas with ease
- A PhD in Data Science or related area and at least 10 years industry experience
