Position Summary:
Redaptive seeks an experienced and visionary Head of Data Engineering to lead our organization's end-to-end data infrastructure and analytics capabilities. The Head of Data Engineering will oversee key functions, including data warehousing, data engineering, data science, business intelligence (BI), and IOT hardware and firmware. This role is responsible for architecting and executing a scalable data strategy that supports business growth, enables data-driven decision-making, and ensures operational excellence across all data platforms.
As a key leader, you will influence product roadmaps, drive engineering excellence, and ensure the seamless integration of data systems to support growth and innovation. Your role will be transformational to Redaptive by delivering AI-powered insights and analytical products.
Our core platform is a meter data backhaul and management system that gathers data from IoT devices in real time to enable energy savings for our customers. This platform powers energy savings models, internal processes, and multiple customer-facing SaaS applications.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Leadership & Strategy:
- Develop and execute the vision and roadmap for the company's data engineering, data science, BI, and IOT hardware and firmware management strategies in alignment with business objectives.
- Lead and mentor a high-performing team of engineers, data scientists, BI analysts, and hardware specialists.
- Provide thought leadership on emerging trends and technologies in data engineering, AI, and analytics, ensuring the organization remains at the forefront of innovation.
- Data Infrastructure:
- Architect and optimize the data infrastructure, ensuring scalable, high-performance solutions for data storage, ETL pipelines, and analytics.
- Oversee the design and implementation of the company's data warehouse, ensuring high availability, security, and reliability.
- Partner with the IT team to ensure the hardware infrastructure supports the performance needs of large-scale data operations.
- Data Science & Analytics:
- Lead the data science function to drive advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI initiatives.
- Develop models and algorithms that deliver actionable insights to key business stakeholders; collaborate with Product, Software Delivery to productize data analytics.
- Ensure that BI tools, dashboards, and reporting solutions meet the needs of various departments, driving data democratization and self-service analytics.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Partner with product, engineering, marketing, finance, and operations teams to identify data opportunities and integrate data-driven solutions into business processes.
- Communicate data strategies and results to senior leadership and other stakeholders, ensuring alignment on priorities and resource allocation.
- Governance & Compliance:
- Lead company-wide data governance initiatives, set policies and enforcement, and monitor success.
- Ensure data governance, security, and compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Collaborate closely with IT Department, Cybersecurity, and related teams to comply with standards such as SOC2 or ISO 27001.
- Implement policies and procedures for data quality, data management, and security across the organization.
- Budget & Resource Management:
- Oversee the budget and resource allocation for the data engineering, BI, data science, and hardware teams.
- Ensure the efficient utilization of cloud platforms, hardware resources, and other technology investments.
Required Abilities and Skills
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and collaboration skills, with a track record of coaching and mentoring high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated ability to architect, build, and operate high-impact, large-scale technology initiatives. Specialty in B2B software and marketplace business models is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of cybersecurity and data privacy best practices.
- Proven success in driving digital transformation initiatives.
- Comfort working in an international setting and managing geographically distributed teams.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or related field; MBA or advanced technical degree preferred.
- 15+ years of experience working in data engineering, data management, data science, or analytics roles, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.
- Proven experience managing a diverse set of technical functions, including hardware/firmware design and engineering of IOT devices.
- Strong expertise in modern data architectures, data warehouses (e.g., Databricks, Redshift), ETL/ELT pipelines, and cloud platforms (e.g. AWS Timestream).
- Proven experience leading large, cross-functional teams and managing complex data systems at scale.
- Deep understanding of data science, including machine learning, statistical modeling, and algorithm development.
- Expertise in BI tools, especially tooling that expands upon dashboarding frameworks (e.g., Tableau) and into AI-powered solutions that democratize data inquiries to be self-serve (e.g., Thoughtspot).
- A proven track record of delivering scalable data solutions that drive business growth and efficiency.
