In this exciting new role, you will be responsible for shaping the technical future of Vector’s data ecosystem and lead the teams building it. On a typical week, you can expect to:

  • Serve as Vector’s senior technical authority for all data platform and engineering decisions.
  • Design, govern, and evolve the full data ecosystem, spanning modern cloud platforms (AWS, Snowflake) and legacy on-prem environments.
  • Drive the development of cloud-first data platforms that process high-frequency energy and IoT data at scale.
  • Enable real-time insights, advanced analytics, automation, and AI that power smarter, more resilient energy solutions for customers and communities as well as optimise network performance, support decarbonisation, and deliver innovative services.
  • Lead Platform Engineering and Data & AI Engineering teams, balancing operational reliability, engineering excellence, and future-focused innovation.

Who are we looking for?

You’re an experienced technical leader with a passion and excitement for building robust, future-ready data platforms that accelerate the energy transition. You will bring with you:

  • 12+ years’ proven experience across large-scale data engineering and platform functions, cloud architecture, and infrastructure.
  • A wealth of technical expertise in AWS, Snowflake, and modern data engineering tools (Coalesce, Fivetran, Python, SQL, etc.).
  • Proven experience leading migration from on-premise SQL to cloud platforms, including defining migration strategies and execution.
  • Strong background in DevOps, DataOps, CI/CD, and automation within data engineering environments.
  • Strategic mindset balancing technical innovation, cost management, and operational reliability.
  • Excellent collaboration and influence skills across technical and business stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to build, mentor, and develop high-performing engineering teams.
  • Passion for automation, engineering craft, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Motivated by the opportunity to shape a data ecosystem that enables real-time insights, smarter energy solutions, and a cleaner, more connected future.

What We Do

We are New Zealand's largest distributor of electricity and gas, owning and operating networks which span the Auckland region. But we don’t stop here - our reach extends to Australia and the Pacific Islands, shaping a new energy future for our customers, through innovative digital and engineering solutions, metering services, solar energy solutions, electric vehicle (EV) networks, high speed internet fibre, air and water purification to name a few.

We haven’t been afraid to challenge the status quo. As leaders of the transformation of the energy sector, we know the ‘same old’ just won’t cut it. We have the confidence to forge new solutions and for our people to work differently, to think differently. We have collaborated with global technology companies and thought leaders who share our view that innovation and digitalisation are key to meeting the future needs of energy systems and fast-evolving customer demands. As governments, businesses and consumers urgently take action to decarbonise, at Vector we are clear on our vision – creating a new energy future.

Because we live in a world that is changing fast, we must continue to identify and develop better options that will provide value, choice and service for our customers throughout New Zealand and beyond, so the environment and communities we love continue to thrive. To do this, Vector has a vision of creating a new energy future, which will help to deliver clean, reliable and affordable energy solutions for customers.
