The Head of Data APAC is a pivotal senior role within the Data Leadership team at Lloyd’s List Intelligence, a global leader in delivering news, analysis, and high-velocity, growth-oriented data-driven products, underpinned by deep market expertise. The business operates within the maritime ecosystem, which is currently experiencing significant and rapid changes in the geopolitical landscape. This newly created position is integral to Lloyd’s List Intelligence’s strategy to broaden its global reach and effectively respond to evolving customer needs. The role encompasses enabling customers to maximise the value derived from Lloyd’s List Intelligence’s data across the maritime supply chain, addressing diverse risk factors, regulatory changes, and the pursuit of commercial opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
The Head of Data APAC will oversee a team of Analysts responsible for researching, validating, and constructing various datasets, as well as supporting product development and enhancement. A critical aspect of this role is ensuring robust engagement between the data team and the customers utilising Lloyd’s List Intelligence’s suite of products. The successful candidate must possess the ability to grasp both the strategic and commercial imperatives that drive success in maritime intelligence, while maintaining a meticulous focus on delivering high-quality outputs.
This is a dynamic opportunity for an energetic, results-oriented individual with extensive experience handling large datasets. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to learn and adapt quickly, demonstrating the ability to swiftly diagnose problems and implement practical solutions. As the most senior data representative in the APAC region, the role involves liaising with regional commercial and product teams, whilst maintaining alignment with global data operations. Achieving success in this role will require contributing to commercial decision-making processes and gaining deep insight into delivering best-in-class data to a discerning and data-centric clientele. Prior experience in managing large datasets for subscription-based B2B products is essential; maritime data or intelligence expertise is highly beneficial. Equally valuable is a passion for rapid learning and applying that knowledge to drive outstanding outcomes in a fast-evolving environment.
This position is senior and influential, playing a vital role in shaping the strategic direction and execution of the business.
- Lead the APAC data and analytics teams with purpose, driving high performance and fostering professional development.
- Collaborate closely with fellow Data Leadership team members to ensure transparency, shared accountability, and full cooperation across all projects.
- Monitor data quality and productivity, proactively seeking to refine processes and policies in response to customer feedback.
- Stay informed about maritime market dynamics and advancements in data intelligence, contributing to actions that strengthen Lloyd’s List Intelligence’s market differentiation.
- Support relationships with APAC partners and suppliers, ensuring transparency and maximising value under the Data Strategy.
- Effectively channel customer feedback and queries, conducting regional and country-level analysis of customer voice, and escalating serious issues as necessary.
- Facilitate timely delivery of pod objectives using Agile methodologies, such as analysing new dataset comparisons and validating machine learning model outputs.
- Create and present business and investment plans aligned with strategic objectives and collaborate with Programme Management to deliver improvements to completion.
- Participate in client visits as a subject matter expert, working alongside sales and product management to represent the growing importance of data expertise.
What we are looking for:
- Proven experience in a B2B subscription-based data or technology business, ideally within maritime or logistics sectors.
- Exceptional people management skills and a track record of leading medium to large teams.
- Experience managing teams across multiple locations is desirable.
- Strong technical knowledge of software solutions and database systems capable of managing and organising Big Data.
- Understanding of complex data ingestion systems; experience with Graph Database technologies is an advantage.
- Evident passion for learning about new and emerging data trends and technologies.
- Innovative, dynamic approach to problem-solving.
- Demonstrated success in driving data quality and system improvements.
- Solid project management abilities, including articulating business justifications, building timelines, and identifying risks.
