About the role
As Head of Compliance & MLRO for Poland and the EU, you will be pivotal in ensuring Volt’s EU operations adhere to all applicable regulations, safeguarding our Polish Payment Institution License, while supporting our ambitious growth plans. You will design and oversee a robust compliance framework, lead AML/CTF efforts, and act as the primary point of contact with EU and Polish regulators. This role combines strategic leadership with hands-on implementation, offering a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
What the role involves
- Compliance Leadership
- Develop and manage Volt.io’s compliance framework for its EU operations (a domestic payment institution licensed in Poland (KIP) and passported into EU/EEA countries), ensuring adherence to Polish and EU regulations, including AML/CTF directives.
- Act as the designated Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO) for the EU, overseeing all AML/CTF activities, policies, and reporting.
- Serve as the primary liaison with the KNF and other EU regulatory bodies.
- Escalate to Senior Management issues related to regulatory risks and/or external institution enquiries where necessary, including owning internal reporting and KPIs related to Compliance in Poland
- Policy Development and Implementation
- Based on group policies, draft, implement, and maintain compliance policies and procedures aligned with EU directives and local regulatory requirements.
- Monitor regulatory developments and ensure Volt remains compliant with evolving standards.
- Own the Compliance Monitoring Plan (CMP) for Poland and the EU/EEA
- AML/CTF Oversight
- Establish and maintain effective AML/CTF systems, including transaction monitoring, customer due diligence (CDD), and enhanced due diligence (EDD).
- Investigate and report suspicious transactions, ensuring compliance with SAR reporting requirements.
- Conduct periodic risk assessments to evaluate and mitigate AML/CTF risks.
- Team Leadership and Development
- Build and mentor the EU Compliance team, fostering a proactive and collaborative compliance culture.
- Deliver compliance training to ensure employees across the organization understand their roles and responsibilities.
- Regulatory Engagement and Reporting
- Manage regulatory inspections, audits, and inquiries, maintaining a transparent and constructive relationship with regulators.
- Work with business stakeholders to prepare and submit regulatory reports to authorities and internal stakeholders.
- Liaise with internal and external auditors and other institutions, as well as potential and existing business partners, ensuring all queries and requests are addressed in a timely and accurate manner.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product, Legal, Risk, and Operations teams to align compliance initiatives with business objectives.
- Support the development of compliant products and services that meet customer needs and regulatory expectations.
- Native Polish speaker, well versed in Polish and EU/EEA payments law and other regulations relevant for a European payment institution.
- Fluent in English, with outstanding written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in the financial services industry, in the payments sector (Polish KIP would be a strong advantage).
- Knowledge of the regulatory environment within the EU/EEA, especially within payments and open banking.
- Professional certifications relevant for the financial industry would be considered an advantage.
- Able to analyze situations and information quickly and confidently, escalating issues to senior management members in a concise and well-organized manner.
- High self-motivation, attention to detail, diligence and ability to multi-task in order to meet deadlines.
- Excellent team player with the ability to work closely with others to identify simple solutions to complex challenges.
- Ability to take risk-based decisions in order to safeguard the company whilst advancing its objectives.
What happens next?
- Selected candidates will be invited for an initial interview with our Senior Talent Acquisition Lead. The video meeting will take about 45 minutes,
- Then it’s time for a second interview with our SVP of Legal and Chief Legal Officer that will last 45 minutes,
- Our Compliance Lead and FRM Lead will meet you during a 45 minute interview,
- Finally, our Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer would also like to chat with you. You can expect the meeting to last approximately 45 minutes,
- If successful, you will be given a job offer proposal.
