Job Summary
The Absa Compliance team is searching for a dynamic and experienced Compliance Officer to lead our Compliance team within a high-performing and pressurized environment. The successful candidate will ensure that Absa business is fully compliant with all regulations and that conduct and reputational risks are proactively monitored and mitigated. This role requires a proactive approach to risk management, driving adherence to the Group's Values, and being a role model for Compliance across the industry.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:

Executive Leadership: Operate at an executive level to enable the execution of the business strategy.

Business Knowledge: Understand services offered, products sold, customer segments served, and the competitor landscape.

Compliance and Commercial Balance: Balance compliance requirements with commercial objectives, turning regulatory compliance into a competitive advantage.

Conflict Management: Manage conflict assertively, clearly articulating regulatory, governance, and control requirements.

Regulatory Expertise: Possess specialist knowledge of JSE Rules, FAIS Act, and Insurance Act, particularly relevant to Distribution, Stockbroking, and Trust businesses.

Governance and Control: Understand and implement good governance and control practices.
The incumbent should be able to lead and develop a high-performing Compliance team, inspiring and promoting high performance and proactive application of organizational Values.
The ideal person should have strong Compliance Advisory experience with a track record of driving adherence to effective standard setting, advice, training, assurance, and engagement.
Maintaining regular engagement with stakeholders, including business, other functions, and regulators. Providing accurate and timely compliance and regulatory advice.
Managing new regulatory requirements and providing impact analysis.
The management of Stakeholders is critical, acting as the point of entry for interactions with regulators. Communicating compliance policies and initiatives effectively and driving a stakeholder management plan for all compliance and regulatory matters.
Owning the Risk management aspects such as being accountable for key conduct risk owner for the business. Performing ongoing monitoring and maintain detailed conduct risk assessments. As well as performing effective monthly assurance testing on key regulatory risks.
The successful person will serve on appropriate risk and governance forums and report to relevant governance forums on conduct, regulatory, and reputational risks.
Education and Experience Required:

B-degree with Commerce concentration (Masters/LLB preferred).

6-8 years of relevant business/product/channel experience.

Strong knowledge of JSE Rules, FAIS Act, and Insurance Act.

Must have passed relevant JSE Exams.
Skills and Competencies:

Deep understanding of relevant business units/product houses/channels.

Strong analytical and interpretative skills regarding regulation and legislation.

Proactive and constructive engagement with regulators and industry groups.

Core principles of an effective compliance function.

Implementation of Compliance governance.
