Job Description

Assystem Energy & Infrastructure are recruiting for a Head Of Commercial to work at our customers site in Derby on a contract basis.

As the Head of Commercial you will report to the Chief Commercial Officer with functional responsibility to the Director of Commercial and Strategy.You will play an integral role in devising, delivering and implementing practical solutions to customer orientated requirements with an appropriate balance of risk and reward. You will work with other members of the senior management team with a PM/Engineering bias to help convert ideas into practical reality and will guide the team from a business/commercial perspective. You will oversee commercial activities from bidding through to contract management and closure and will work closely with campaign managers pursuing new opportunities. This will be a customer facing role which will require good political and diplomacy skills. You will work closely with the Strategy, Customer Management, Business Development and Estimating Functions.

Qualifications

Key Accountabilities:

  • To support the delivery of the Commercial Strategy and to provide strategic leadership and direction to Commercial Managers / Commercial teams and to the wider Business population. 
  • Represent Commercial with authority on the most important commercial issues and initiatives, and interface with Functions at senior levels.
  • Provide strategic direction to any continuous improvement initiative within the Commercial Function
  • Develop and maintain a team matched to the requirements of the business
  • Manage multi-disciplined business teams to ensure delivery of the business requirements in line with the BPD, using Company standard processes including setting individual and team objectives
  • Ensure compliance with (a) all approval processes and (b) all Commercial processes, and (c) all applicable Corporate processes within their areas of responsibility
  • Develop, implement and share Commercial best practice and (if appropriate) embedding in local procedures or processes.
  • To coach and mentor members of the Function.
  • Builds business relationships, strategic relationships to achieve maximum profitability and/or efficiency whilst seeking to meet the needs of the Customer and/or Business.
  • Produce, independently or through management of teams, innovative business solutions to secure profitable and/or strategic new business .
  • Identify potential risks and liabilities inherent in the most-complex / highest-value or most strategically important tenders and contracts, propose and negotiate amendments to minimise or mitigate same, using judgement in balancing commercial / legal considerations against the requirements of the Business, to secure conformity with Commercial policies and procedures.
  • Provide senior management leadership and (where appropriate) manage/negotiate resolution of the most significant claims, disputes and litigation in order to minimise cost and risk to the Business.
  • Create and deliver the Commercial input to the Company budget/forecasting processes as required.

Additional Information

**Security clearance**

This role requires the successful candidate to hold a minimum of a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance.

Due to the nature of work this role will be delivering and for the protection of certain assets, the successful candidate has to be a UK national or in MoD approved cases a Dual National from a non-ITAR country.
