To lead the Bank's business growth agenda by driving sustainable deposit mobilization, customer acquisition, quality loan origination and revenue growth across institutional, SME, micro-enterprise and retail segments. The role will also lead the Bank's enterprise development proposition, helping small and informal businesses formalize, strengthen their operations and progressively access larger and more appropriate financial solutions.


Key Responsibilities

1. Business Growth and Deposit Mobilization

  • Develop and execute business development strategies to achieve approved deposit, customer, lending and revenue targets.
  • Drive deposit mobilization across institutional, corporate, SME, micro-enterprise and retail customer segments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with high-value depositors, businesses, institutions and strategic partners.
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities, partnerships and customer acquisition channels.
  • Monitor deposit composition, pricing and cost of funds and recommend appropriate commercial actions.

2. Lending and Portfolio Growth

  • Lead the origination of quality lending opportunities within the Bank's approved risk appetite and target market.
  • Develop and maintain a healthy pipeline of SME, micro-enterprise and other qualifying lending opportunities.
  • Work closely with Risk & Credit to ensure appropriate credit appraisal, structuring, pricing and approval of facilities.
  • Monitor portfolio growth, customer repayment behavior, delinquency and collections performance in conjunction with Operations and Risk.
  • Drive cross-selling of appropriate lending, deposit and other financial products to existing customers.

3. Enterprise Development

  • Lead the Bank's enterprise development proposition for small, informal and emerging businesses.
  • Develop initiatives that support customers to formalize, improve financial discipline and build sustainable business capacity.
  • Establish a structured pathway through which qualifying businesses can progress from small initial facilities to larger and more sophisticated financial solutions.
  • Identify business development opportunities within key SME and micro-enterprise clusters, associations and trade networks.
  • Build strategic partnerships that expand the Bank's reach and support enterprise growth.

4. Marketing and Customer Acquisition

  • Lead customer acquisition initiatives across physical, relationship-based and digital channels.
  • Direct the execution of marketing campaigns and manage the approved digital customer acquisition budget.
  • Work closely with the Digital Marketing & Growth Officer to improve lead generation, conversion and customer engagement.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity and customer needs and recommend appropriate changes to products, pricing and distribution channels.
  • Strengthen the Bank's market presence and brand positioning within its licensed operating area.

5. Team Leadership and Performance Management

  • Set clear business development targets for Relationship Managers and monitor performance against agreed KPIs.
  • Coach, develop and motivate the business team to achieve sustainable commercial results.
  • Review individual and team pipelines regularly and take corrective action where performance falls below expectations.
  • Promote a customer-focused, commercially disciplined and ethically driven sales culture.
  • Collaborate with Risk, Operations, Finance and Technology to ensure business growth is supported by effective controls and service delivery.

6. Management Reporting and Governance

  • Provide regular reports to the MD/CEO on business performance, deposit mobilization, lending pipeline, customer acquisition and revenue.
  • Monitor performance against approved budgets, targets and business plans and recommend corrective actions.
  • Ensure all business development and lending activities comply with the Bank's policies, approved risk appetite and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Provide market intelligence and commercial insights to support Management and Board decision-making.


Requirements
  • First degree in Business Administration, Finance, Economics, Marketing, Accounting or a related discipline.
  • Professional certification or membership of a recognized banking, finance or business-related professional body, such as CIBN, is desirable.
  • An MBA, MSc or other relevant postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 10 years' relevant professional experience, with at least 7 years in financial services, particularly in relationship management, business development, SME banking, commercial banking, microfinance or enterprise lending.
  • At least 3 years' experience in a supervisory or management position with demonstrable responsibility for business growth, customer acquisition, deposits and/or lending.
  • Experience working with SMEs, micro-enterprises and informal businesses is strongly preferred.
