Role Overview
We are looking for a high-impact BancAssurance Leader to drive growth across our Banking, Microfinance, and SACCO portfolio. This is a hunter and strategist role, responsible for identifying, unlocking, and scaling high-value BancAssurance partnerships in Uganda. You will own growth, shape market strategy, and play a key role in building the Banca BD engine that drives long-term scale.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Drive Growth & Revenue
- Accountability: Take full responsibility for hitting ambitious bancassurance revenue targets in Uganda.
- Pipeline Excellence: Build and aggressively manage a high-quality pipeline of worthwhile opportunities.
- Full Lifecycle Execution: Lead the end-to-end deal cycle, from initial origination and pitching to final closure.
- Revenue Sustainability: Ensure that every partnership is structured to deliver long-term, scalable, and sustainable revenue.
- Growth Mindset: Act as a primary driver for bancassurance growth and a key owner of the revenue engine.
Strategic Market Development
- GTM Strategy: Design and execute a sophisticated bancassurance go-to-market strategy that aligns with Turaco’s vision.
- Priority Mapping: Identify and prioritise high-potential partners and anchor institutions.
- Commercial Evaluation: Rigorously assess opportunities based on their potential for scalability and revenue impact.
- Product Evolution: Collaborate with internal teams to provide market-led insights on product design, pricing, and competitive positioning.
Stakeholder & Deal Leadership
- Executive Presence: Build and nurture high-level relationships with C-suite executives, founders, and key regulators.
- Complex Negotiations: Lead high-stakes negotiations for strategic partnerships that require creative and technical structuring.
- Ecosystem Navigation: Manoeuvre through complex, multi-stakeholder environments to unblock bottlenecks and accelerate deal flow.
Build Systems & Commercial Discipline
- Operational Rigour: Establish and maintain structured pipeline management, CRM discipline, and transparent reporting.
- Process Standardisation: Drive consistency in how opportunities are sourced, tracked, and transitioned to the Commercial Division.
- Strategic Intelligence: Systematically capture market insights and competitor data to refine the broader company strategy.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- GWP Growth: Achieve quarterly and annual GWP targets across bancassurance partnerships in Uganda.
- New Partnership Acquisition: Sign an agreed number of new bancassurance partners (banks, MFIs, SACCOs) each quarter.
- Pipeline Health: Maintain an active, qualified pipeline of financial institutions at all times, with documented engagement stages and close timelines. **A qualified pipeline means a list of organisations where you have identified a strong champion(decision maker/budget owner), a strong interest in our product(s), and budget availability to execute the partnership
- Renewal and Retention: Drive renewal rates on existing bancassurance portfolios, targeting 90% and above retention.
- Competitive Intelligence: Stay on top of the bancassurance and microinsurance competitive landscape in Uganda. Track competitor products, pricing, partnerships, and market positioning, and provide regular market intelligence updates to inform Turaco’s BD strategy and ensure we maintain our edge as the leading microinsurance provider.
- Market Representation: Represent Turaco at bancassurance and microinsurance industry forums, conferences, and association events, positioning Turaco as the leading microinsurance provider.
- Partner Engagement Quality: Conduct regular business reviews with active partners, ensuring product performance reporting, SLA adherence, and relationship health.
- Cross-sell and Upsell: Identify and pursue opportunities to expand product offerings within existing partner portfolios.
- Reporting and CRM Hygiene: Maintain up-to-date pipeline records and submit accurate weekly BD reports.
- Collaboration: Work effectively with internal teams in CX, Marketing, Operations, and Partnerships to ensure smooth partner onboarding and ongoing service delivery.
Key Qualifications & Your Profile

- Proven Sales Architecture: 7–10 years of experience in Sales or Business Development leadership, specifically focused on B2B2C or bancassurance deals.

- A fast-paced, creative thinker who doesn't wait for leads to land in their inbox. You have a "hunter" mindset with a proven ability to map out untapped markets and identify high-value opportunities.
- Excellent team player with strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Regional Context: Experience working across East Africa and an understanding of local insurance regulations.
- Tech-Savvy: Familiarity with API-driven products or tech platforms, as Turaco’s value prop is heavily tech-integrated.
- Network: An existing senior contact list within the financial services or telecommunications sectors.
