The Head of ASC Consulting serves as the senior leader and owner of VMG Health’s Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) consulting service line within the Health Plan & Specialty Services business unit. Reporting to the Business Unit lead, this individual is responsible for the growth, financial performance, client delivery, and continued development of the service line while maintaining a significant role in direct client engagement and consulting delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Service Line Leadership & Growth
- Own the strategic direction, growth, and financial performance of VMG Health’s ASC consulting service line within the framework of the broader firm’s growth initiatives.
- Develop and manage a book of business through new client relationships, repeat engagements, referrals, and expansion of existing client relationships.
- Identify market opportunities and develop service offerings that address evolving needs across the ASC industry.
- Build and maintain relationships with healthcare executives, ASC operators, physicians, private equity stakeholders, health systems, and other industry leaders.
- Represent VMG Health as a senior ASC subject matter expert through industry conferences, speaking engagements, publications, professional organizations, and other external forums.
Client Advisory & Consulting Delivery
- Lead and participate in ASC consulting engagements, serving as a senior advisor and applying direct ASC operating experience to develop practical, actionable recommendations.
- Oversee consulting solutions across strategic planning, ASC development, operational performance, financial analysis and pro forma modeling, facility development, compliance, performance improvement, business turnarounds, and licensing, certification, and accreditation.
- Oversee engagement quality, client value, project execution, and financial performance while ensuring delivery of high-quality client deliverables.
- Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and introduce additional VMG Health capabilities.
Team & Practice Leadership
- Recruit, develop, mentor, and retain a high-performing ASC consulting team.
- Establish expectations for consulting delivery, client service, business development, and professional development.
- Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, innovation, and continuous learning, including connection to the broader firm
- Oversee ASC Connection membership program content and other thought leadership and industry resources.
Financial & Operational Management
- Manage the ASC service line budget and financial performance, including client service fee schedules and engagement economics.
- Monitor service line performance and implement adjustments that support sustainable growth and profitability.
- Drive continuous improvement and innovation to strengthen VMG Health’s position in the ASC consulting market.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, health administration, business administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of leadership experience within an ambulatory surgery environment.
- Previous healthcare consulting experience with a track record of selling and delivering consulting engagements.
- Experience leading ASC operations, strategy, development, or other significant areas of ASC performance.
- Experience combining ASC operational leadership with healthcare consulting or advisory responsibilities, including the ability to translate operational expertise into client solutions and business opportunities.
- Experience developing senior-level client and industry relationships, and leading client engagements in a healthcare environment.
- Proven business development experience, including identifying opportunities, developing relationships, and expanding client engagements.
- Strong understanding of the ASC operating environment, industry dynamics, and regulatory landscape.
- Excellent verbal, written, presentation, interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to travel up to 70% based on client and business needs.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Master’s degree in nursing, health administration, business administration, or a related field.
- Experience working for or within a private equity-backed ASC or a hospital/health-system-backed ASC is a plus.
- Experience serving in a senior operational or executive leadership role within a corporate, health system, or ASC organization, with demonstrated success in developing and securing new business.
- Previous healthcare consulting experience with a track record of selling and delivering consulting engagements.
- Experience with ASC development, acquisitions, partnerships, joint ventures, or other strategic transactions.
- Experience working with private equity investors, health systems, physician groups, or other ASC stakeholders.
- CASC, CIC, CAIP, or CNOR certification.
- Established network of relationships within the ASC industry.
- Experience as a public speaker, author, or recognized ASC subject matter expert.
