Role: Hardware Engineer- mTIB Support (OCTA/NFTA)
Duration: Long Term
Location: Columbia, MD- Hybrid
Justification: Required to assist the mTIB developer with integration and hardware validation support for transit systems at OCTA and NFTA.
Experience Level: 5-10 years
Job Responsibilities:
Provide hardware integration, validation, and troubleshooting support for internally developed hardware boards to be deployed transit sites.
Collaborate closely with the product development team to ensure hardware and software components integrate seamlessly with existing transit infrastructure.
Conduct comprehensive hardware validation and acceptance testing to ensure system reliability, performance, and compliance with transit authority standards.
Support deployment, configuration, and commissioning of custom hardware in field environments.
Analyze hardware issues reported from field operations and develop effective corrective actions.
Work with cross-functional teams including software engineers, system architects, vendors, and operations teams to resolve technical issues.
Develop and maintain detailed documentation for hardware configurations, integration processes, test plans, and troubleshooting procedures.
Participate in design reviews and provide recommendations for hardware improvements based on field feedback and system performance.
Ensure compliance with safety, security, and regulatory standards applicable to public transit systems.
Technical Skills & Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field (Master’s preferred).
5-10 years of experience in hardware engineering, integration, and field support, preferably within transportation or transit systems.
Strong understanding of embedded systems hardware, industrial communication protocols (e.g., RS-485, CAN, Modbus, Ethernet/IP).
Experience with hardware validation, test automation, and system integration methodologies.
Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and system blueprints.
Hands-on experience with diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, protocol analyzers, and network sniffers.
