About the Company

At Torc, we have always believed that autonomous vehicle technology will transform how we travel, move freight, and do business.

A leader in autonomous driving since 2007, Torc has spent over a decade commercializing our solutions with experienced partners. Now a part of the Daimler family, we are focused solely on developing software for automated trucks to transform how the world moves freight.

Join us and catapult your career with the company that helped pioneer autonomous technology, and the first AV software company with the vision to partner directly with a truck manufacturer.

Meet the Team:

The Robotic Truck Commissioning Team is a team of experienced engineers that work on our autonomous trucks to integrate hardware and deploy software. This team is dedicated to creating safer roads and saving lives, and your contribution will have an unequivocal impact on the future of trucking and autonomous technology. We are looking for teammates who are passionate about working in this hands-on environment.

What You’ll do:

As a Hardware Engineer with Software Verification expertise on our Robotic Truck Commissioning Team, you will play a critical role in developing, testing, and deploying advanced robotic systems for autonomous trucks. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, mechanical engineers, and system architects, to ensure both hardware and software components integrate seamlessly and function reliably. This role includes hands-on involvement in the commissioning process, ensuring that the systems are fully operational and meet all performance standards before deployment.

  • Hardware Design & Development: You will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing hardware components used in autonomous trucks, such as sensors, control systems, and communication interfaces. This will involve working closely with mechanical and electrical engineering teams to ensure smooth integration of robotic components into the vehicle platform. Additionally, you will conduct feasibility studies and performance analyses to guide the design process and ensure the hardware meets the necessary specifications.

  • Software Verification & Validation: You will create and execute detailed software verification plans to ensure the reliability and performance of the systems. This includes maintaining automated test frameworks and scripts to validate the software’s functionality in conjunction with hardware components. You will also track software defects, collaborating with development teams to address and resolve issues promptly. Regression testing will ensure recent code changes do not negatively impact existing features, all while adhering to industry-standard software quality and safety protocols.

  • System Integration & Testing: In this role, you will assist in the integration of both hardware and software systems, ensuring they work harmoniously and communicate effectively. You will be responsible for conducting system-level testing to validate performance, reliability, and safety standards. In case of issues, you will utilize diagnostic tools and methodologies to troubleshoot and resolve integration problems.

  • Commissioning Activities: As part of the commissioning team, you will take a hands-on role in on-site activities such as system calibration, functional testing, and performance tuning of the robotic trucks. You will oversee the installation, setup, and initial testing of hardware and software systems in the field. Monitoring system performance and resolving issues during commissioning are key to ensuring the successful operation of the trucks. You will also document the results and provide recommendations for improvement.

  • Documentation & Compliance: You will produce and maintain detailed technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and reports. This documentation ensures all hardware and software components meet the relevant industry standards and regulatory requirements. Additionally, you will keep accurate records of all testing procedures, results, and modifications to support compliance and future reference.

  • Collaboration & Support: Collaboration is essential in this role. You will work closely with cross-functional teams, ensuring alignment between hardware and software development processes. You will also provide support and guidance to field engineers and technicians during both the commissioning and deployment phases, ensuring that systems are installed and configured correctly. Participation in design and code reviews will further foster continuous improvement and knowledge sharing within the team.

 What you’ll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Robotics, or a related field.
  • 2-4 years of experience in hardware engineering with a strong focus on software verification and validation, preferably in robotics, automotive, or aerospace industries.
  • Proven experience in designing and implementing hardware systems integrated with complex software applications.
  • Hands-on experience with software testing methodologies, tools, and processes, including unit testing, integration testing, and system testing.
  • Experience with automated testing frameworks and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C, and C++ for test script development and hardware interfacing.
  • Strong understanding of electronic circuits, signal processing, embedded systems, and real-time operating systems.
  • Familiarity with communication protocols (e.g., CAN, Ethernet, SPI, I2C) and network architectures.

 Bonus Points

  • Knowledge of software quality standards and safety regulations relevant to autonomous vehicles and robotics.
  • Experience with robotic operating systems (e.g., ROS) and simulation environments.
  • Certification in software testing or quality assurance (e.g., ISTQB Certified Tester).
  • Familiarity with safety-critical system development and associated standards (e.g., ISO 26262).
  • Experience with data analysis and visualization tools to interpret test results and performance metrics.
