SUMMARY:
The Hardlines Processor evaluates, sorts, prices, and prepares donated household goods and other non-textile merchandise for sale or appropriate disposition. The position makes frequent decisions regarding merchandise condition, quality, value, category, and sales potential while meeting established production and quality expectations.
This role supports Goodwill NLA's mission of Improving People's Lives Through the Power of Work by responsibly stewarding donated goods and helping maximize the value of each donation to generate revenue that supports workforce programs and community services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Hardlines Processing, Pricing & Stewardship
- Inspects and evaluates donated household goods, electronics, books, shoes, accessories, furniture, décor, and other hardlines merchandise for condition, quality, salability, and appropriate disposition.
- Sorts merchandise to the appropriate sales, e-commerce, higher-value, outlet, salvage, recycling, or disposal stream.
- Identifies merchandise that may have increased value based on brand, condition, age, origin, collectability, market demand, or other established criteria and routes it appropriately.
- Prices merchandise that is not unit-priced using established guidelines and sound judgment to support both customer value and responsible stewardship.
- Uses processing systems and label-printing equipment to accurately label merchandise for sale and rotation.
- Prepares, groups, bags, or stages merchandise as appropriate for efficient movement and sale.
- Meets established production expectations while maintaining required quality and pricing standards.
- Accurately records required production information
Merchandise Flow & Operational Support
- Organizes processed merchandise for efficient movement to the sales floor.
- Safely moves merchandise and uses authorized material-handling equipment as required.
- Assists in other store operational areas, including softlines processing, donations, merchandise movement, and sales-floor support, as assigned and trained
Safety & Stewardship
- Maintains a clean, organized, and safe processing area and follows required PPE, lifting, material-handling, and equipment procedures.
- Recognizes and appropriately reports hazardous materials, prohibited items, unsafe merchandise, or other concerns encountered in donated goods.
- Protects donated goods and agency assets and promptly reports suspected theft, misuse, loss, or safety concerns.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and/or Experience: High school diploma, HiSET/GED, or equivalent preferred. Previous production, retail, warehouse, or related experience is helpful but not required. Must be able to learn established quality, sorting, processing, and productivity standards.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must complete and maintain any safety, equipment, or other position-specific training or authorization required for assigned duties.
Screenings: Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check and any additional screenings required by agency policy.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:
The position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, twisting, and repetitive handling of donated merchandise throughout the work shift. The employee regularly handles items of varying sizes, shapes, weights, and conditions, including household goods, books, electronics, décor, accessories, and furniture.
The employee regularly lifts and moves merchandise weighing up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds, using team lifting or appropriate equipment for heavier, bulky, or awkward items. The position regularly requires pushing, pulling, and maneuvering carts, containers, and other merchandise-handling equipment.
Work is performed primarily in a retail production and processing environment and may include exposure to dust, airborne particles, recycled or soiled donated materials, sharp or breakable items, noise, moving equipment, and varying indoor temperatures.
Skills Required
