Our team of specialist pathologists, scientists, technicians, phlebotomists, couriers, and shared services personnel deliver a world-class service that together collects, analyses, and reports over 7 million patient results annually.

About the role | Mō te tūranga:

We are seeking two Haematologists to join our team in permanent part-time roles, primarily based in Auckland with flexibility for candidates to be located in Canterbury.

As a large community laboratory serving a population of over 1.6 million people, Awanui Labs Auckland provides services to more than 330 medical practices and works closely across the wider Awanui network. The service operates across multiple locations with integrated support, including remote coverage for smaller satellite and regional laboratories, both for routine work and accreditation purposes. Our laboratories utilise a single laboratory information system (LIS), and we are well advanced in harmonising procedures and practices, enabling effective collaboration and shared resourcing across the network.
Key Responsibilities:

  • You will share responsibility for completing the routine haematology work which includes peripheral blood smears, coagulation, thalassaemia’s, special haematology, basic blood grouping and bone marrows.
  • Assisting the network with online reporting of Flow Cytometry, thalassaemia’s and digital peripheral blood film images.
  • Supporting scientific staff both in haematology and preanalytical areas with relevant education, CPD and training for improving services through better understanding of the clinical impact of processes and procedures. Assisting with morphology training and feedback of the morphology EQA programs.
