Position Summary

The HACCP Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, maintaining, and verifying the Tulkoff OH facility’s HACCP and food safety programs. This position ensures that food safety hazards associated with ingredients, formulation, processing, packaging, storage, and distribution are effectively identified and controlled.

The HACCP Coordinator works closely with Quality Assurance, Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, Warehouse, Purchasing, and R&D to maintain compliance with SQF, FDA requirements, customer specifications, and company food safety policies.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and periodically review HACCP plans for sauces, condiments, dressings, marinades, and related products.
  • Conduct hazard analyses for raw materials, ingredients, processing steps, packaging materials, and finished products.
  • Maintain accurate process flow diagrams and verify them against actual production practices.
  • Identify and evaluate biological, chemical, physical, allergen, and radiological hazards as applicable.
  • Establish and maintain critical control points, critical limits, monitoring procedures, corrective actions, preventative actions, and verification activities.
  • Maintain appropriate controls for pH, temperature, time, thermal processing, and other validated process parameters.
  • Support validation and verification of cooking, heating, cooling, acidification, and other processes used to control food safety hazards.
  • Ensure monitoring records for CCPs and other food safety controls are complete, accurate, and reviewed in a timely manner.
  • Investigate CCP deviations, determine product disposition in coordination with QA management, and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Coordinate HACCP reassessments when there are changes to formulations, ingredients, suppliers, equipment, processes, packaging, facility layout, or regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain and verify prerequisite programs, including:
    • GMPs and employee hygiene
    • Sanitation and SSOPs
    • Allergen control
    • Environmental monitoring
    • Pest control
    • Chemical control
    • Foreign material control
    • Supplier approval
    • Glass and brittle plastic control
    • Traceability and recall
    • Product identification and labeling
  • Support allergen risk assessments and controls for ingredients commonly used in sauces and condiments, including Milk & Dairy, Soy, Wheat, Eggs, Mustard, Tree nuts, Fish, Shellfish, Sesame and Sulfites applicable allergens.
  • Review ingredients and finished product specifications for food safety requirements.
  • Assist with label reviews to ensure allergen declarations and other required information are accurate.
  • Participate in environmental monitoring activities and investigation of positive results, including root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support product hold, release, disposition, withdrawal, and recall activities.
  • Coordinate and participate in mock recalls and traceability exercises.
  • Assist with internal audits and preparation for SQF certification, customer, regulatory, and third-party audits.
  • Track audit findings, corrective actions, preventive actions, and completion dates.
  • Maintain HACCP, SQF, food safety, and verification documentation in accordance with document-control requirements.
  • Provide HACCP, GMP, allergen, sanitation, and food safety training to employees as required.
  • Participate as a member of the site Food Safety Team.
  • Communicate food safety concerns promptly to the SQF Practitioner, QA Manager, and appropriate members of management.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to food safety, quality, sanitation, and process control.
Qualifications

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Safety, Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry, or a related field; equivalent relevant food manufacturing experience may be considered.
  • HACCP training and demonstrated understanding of HACCP principles.
  • Experience in food manufacturing, preferably in sauces, condiments, dressings, marinades, or other processed foods.
  • Working knowledge of GMPs, sanitation, allergen control, food safety, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with production employees, supervisors, management, and technical personnel.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic quality/document management systems.

Preferred

  • Experience in an SQF-certified food manufacturing facility.
  • PCQI certification.
  • SQF Practitioner or SQF training.
  • Internal Auditor certification or training.
  • Experience with acidified foods and/or low-acid processing.
