JOB DESCRIPTION:

 At Hands of Heartland, we believe that people with developmental disabilities are people first. We are looking for compassionate and caring individuals to join our team as a Habilitation Specialist to provide care to the individuals we support at the Laura Dester Children’s Center (LDCC). The LDCC is an Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) that serves 25 clients who do not require physical assistance with mobility or feeding. Most direct support work focuses on habilitation and behavioral management. You will work with children and adolescents who have developmental disabilities as well as behavioral support needs and mental illness.

  • Must be 21 years of age, have a High School Diploma or GED, and a valid Drivers License. Must be able to pass a background check.

 WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Provide direct care and support to children and adolescents
  • Assist with activities of daily living
  • Implement individualized care plans and follow specific protocols
  • Support individuals in achieving their personal goals and promoting independence
  • Teach life skills, social skills, and daily living routines.
  • Implementing behavior plans, de-escalation, data collection, emotional regulation support.
  • Assist with medication administration and documentation as required
  • Maintain a safe and clean environment for individuals
  • Provide emotional support and companionship to individuals

 HOURS NEEDED:

  • You can choose to work one of the following available shifts
    • 6:15 am to 3:00 pm
    • 2:15 pm to 11:00 pm
    • 10:30 pm to 7:00 am 
  • We do NOT hire part-time, PRN, or Weekend-only positions

SKILLS NEEDED:

  • Experience in providing care to individuals with developmental disabilities or similar populations preferred but not required
  • Ability to work effectively with people with diverse needs and backgrounds
  • Strong communication skills to interact with individuals, families, and team members
  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced, team orientated environment

BENEFITS OFFERED:

  • Starting pay of $19.10 per hour
  • Pay increase to $20.42 after 6 months of employment
  • Shift differential of $1.00 per hour for hours worked between 6pm and 6am
  • Sign on bonus paid over 6 months

Skills Required

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED
